1) a band Ben Gibbard was in before Death Cab for Cutie
2) a band featuring Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne.
3) a Minneapolis hard rock band formed in 2008
1) In the Ben Gibbard version, Ben shared lead vocal duties with Justin Kennedy, who now fronts L.A. popsters Army Navy. The band sounds more like Built to Spill than it does Death Cab.
2) Adam and Chris, now of Fountains of Wayne, met at William College in 1986. They played in a series of bands together and sometime in the late 1980s/early 1990s recorded some demos as Pinwheel. Four songs from these recordings eventually became Fountains of Wayne songs; Troubled Times, I Know You Well, Imperia, and Half a Woman.
3) Minneapolis-based rockers Pinwheel have just released their first full length album "Reset" and there's a distinctly powerful sonic groundwork being laid - think the melodic veracity of Tool meeting the instrumental headiness of Nine Inch Nails. Call it industrial; call it prog-metal; call it what you will, but one thing is clear: the impressive chops summing Pinwheel's whole are an aggressive, boundary-testing aberration. The band's output is tightly-executed and atmospherically jarring, ideal for fans of electronic-tinged hard rock. Combine all that with a notoriously raucous live show, and you've got one of the Twin Cities' buzziest hard rock bands.

Pinwheel Lyrics

I can only hope
To find you listening
For all the things that we do not say
Must be painful for you
Holding it back that way
But I think I like the pace
And with my head in your hands
Do I think I can find the strength
To get up again
With a tongue in your cheek
You may find it easy
To admit defeat
And in this round about way
You can convince yourself
That you don't have to stay
But I think I like the pace
Only alone can I make my mistakes
And with my head in your hands
Do I think I can find the strength
To get up again
The song "In Hand" by Pinwheel is a heartfelt song about a relationship that is going through some difficulties. The lyrics start by talking about the singer's head being in their partner's hands, indicating a sense of vulnerability and dependence. They hope that their partner is listening to the things they are not saying, indicating that there are some unspoken emotions and feelings that need to be addressed. It appears that the singer understands that holding back those unexpressed feelings must be painful for their partner.
The singer then admits that they enjoy being alone and that it is in solitude that they find solace. The lyrics then go back to the image of the singer's head in their partner's hands, stating that they believe they can find the strength to get up again, implying that they have been emotionally beaten down.
The second verse talks about the partner having a tongue in their cheek, which means that they are being sarcastic or insincere. It seems that the partner easily admits defeat, maybe indicating that they are not willing to put in the effort to fix the relationship. The singer then says that the partner can convince themselves through this round-about-way that they don't have to stay, which suggests they may be considering leaving the relationship, but they don't want to confront the real reason why they want to leave.
The song's overall message is about communication, vulnerability, and understanding. It's about the importance of expressing your emotions and having a partner who is willing to listen to you. There are times in a relationship where things get difficult, and instead of talking about them, we hold back. Pinwheel's song "In Hand" reminds us that it's essential to be honest with ourselves and our partners to make the relationship stronger.

Pinwheel, this is an awesome song and very calming, sad but hopeful too. Brilliant like the rest of the album. Your 2nd album was great too. Such an incredible band with much talent that is still largely undiscovered by a larger audience. I'd love to have more albums from Pinwheel, but they cost money and time to create.
