Hey :-),
Just so you know,”casted” isn’t a word.

“Cast” is unusual because it’s past-tense is the same as it’s present…

I cast you
I’m casting you
I’ve cast you.

They cast him.

Not trying to be a know it all, a lot of people make this mistake.
Thank you for recommending that movie

"Maina" looks interesting. I think that i will take the time to see it.
"The new world" looks also intersting. I might see this one as well.
"The Emeraid Forest" is a great movie which i posess the Blu-ray of it. It is hearbreaking to see how the tribe fights to save their environment, but civilisations progress cannot be stopped.
"Geronimo" is a very good movie. Wes Studi is a great actor and plays a native american like no other, not only because he is from cherokee origin, but he is also a very good actor.
"Black Robe" sounds like something one must not see, but could be intresting anyhow. Maybe i will see it.
"Into the West" looks promising. I will most likely see it.
"The last of his tribe" might be intersting. And it is starring THE most known (as far as i belive) native american actor: Wes Studi.
"The last of the mohicans" is a little too american for me. I don't know why, but it feels that way (it might be time to see it again, to put the finger on it). Maybe because there had to be a love story (the main character and a white lady). I might be wrong, because it is so long ago (decades), but i don't think that in the earlier movies of the last mohican there was a love story including the main character. I think this time it was done to reach a wider audience. I don't really like it when this is done. Maybe because i am not a mainstream viewer...?
"Dances with Wolves" is a league of its own. A man most of the time all alone with only his thougts in the wide wild west appeals to me (probably because i myself wouldn't survive without the modern civilisation).
"Apocalypto" is a movie i have heard of, but never felt the urge to see it. Most likely it has to do with that i have heard that the movies language is a native tongue (tongues?) without any subtitles.

I can recommend also "A man called horse". The main character (Richard Harris) gets caught by a native american tribe and has to endure a lot of scorn, mockery and even torture as their slave, but because he endures all of it he wins their respect bit by bit.

@carollido8742

The New World was made just a couple of miles away from my house in virginia.

I think Apocalypto is probably one of the very best and the other one I love is Hostiles even though the title is really unfortunate.

And I want to say I think Max Trujillo and my good friend Gerald Augerare some of the best native American actors ever.

What's missing is Woman Walks Ahead and the incomparable Michael Greyeyes. And Val Kilmer's Thunderheart.

But it's a great list.

@loslobos786

1) Apocalypto
2) Son of the Morning star
3) Last of the Mohicans
4) Geronimo
5) Last of the Dogmen
6) The Mission
7) Black Robe
8)Dances with Wolves
9)Into the West
And ..........Smoke Signals, YEAH that's right I said it!! It might be corny but I like Smoke Signals.

It is one of the very few marketed White audience films that has not one character who's White- no tropes of the evil blue eyed devil, no White savior, no White abductee who becomes an Indigenous champion. All Indigenous or Latino cast, no European languages. And every bit as relatable as any White audience film.
1. Stunning visuals/sets.
2. Compelling story.
3. Protagonists you root for or feel for.
4. Antagonists you hate (or in the case of the main military leader- you respect him, but you don't like him).
5. Humor in the beginning to make these people from a different culture and time period real to us.
6. Awesome costuming and hair.

This was a top notch film. I forget the guy's name who played Jaguar Paw- but he was very athletic in real life- boxing and track, so he was really in awesome shape to do this film and stunts.

The movie "The Black Robe" is spoken in Algonquian, Iroquois-Mohawk, Huron, Cree and English. There are also a few lines in French.

Forgot A Man Called Horse, Cheyenne Autumn, and many others. It is good to see Wes Studi and Russell Means in some of their best roles.

@AthelstanEngland

A Man Called Horse was superb.

@moleqle

Wes Studi is a great actor. He makes everything he’s in, better. If either he or Graham are in a movie it’s a big yes for me. Great list. Black robe is one of my favorite movies of all time.

@DanCortesPodcast

Black Robe for me too. Oh, and Wes is awesome.

An almost forgotten movie is Windwalker from 1980, about the Cheyenne clashing with the Absaroka. The main character is played by an old Trevor Howard, an english actor (Who replaced a native actor who was casted, but fell sick). Nonetheless it is a great movie. The interaction of the old Windwalker with his grandchildren is super sweet. The fighting and tension in the wet snow is amazing. Also featuring Bart the Bear in his first movie. :)
