A lot of people want piranhas because of how hype the media makes them appear, but in reality they most just sit around or hide all the time, so it’s very easy to get bored of them

Edit: Also piranha are illegal in some areas, and some people like to get pacu, their close relative, as an alternative to piranha, but they are a much worse option
Silver dollars are a great alternative imo. Very similar looking and closely related, very active, and pretty easy to care for if you can accommodate their size

It depends what season and whether they are wild or not; piranhas in the wilderness will most probably bite you if they are starving, but piranhas kept at home in a tank will probably already be used to feeding time.

Need some more hardscape, such as driftwood, also some dense plant coverage. Skiddish fish need lots of hiding spots to feel secure, and if they don't have them they can get really stressed and even die

I'm not a great expert when it comes to aquascapijg but I feel like they need more foliage like plants and driftwood bc that's how they like to hide in the wild. Now if they tear up the plants and stuff then that's understandable 😂

Ive seen tons of tanks with piranhas and tons of live plants. So, i am sure they do fine with plants. Though i am unsure of how well they did long term, youre right that they need more places to hide. It will make them feel more comfortable. It would probably help them be more active and not huddled in fear/stress also if he didnt take them out for water changes every time. Hopefully those arent 100% water changes either. Hes had them for 3 years. So it seems hes doing OK, but i think they would do much better and thrive if he listened to your advice, for sure.

I have three piranha tanks. A 75 gallon with five that are 5 to 6 inches long 150 gallon with eight that are 7 to 9 inches long and 180 gallon with six that are 10 to 13 inches long. I have been raising piranhas for eight years now I feed mine a variety of foods. Shrimp, nightcrawlers, bass Minnows, mice, toads, and a occasional mole. I do water changes and gravel cleanings every three weeks and my hand is always in the tank and I have never been bitten. They are a very skittish fish and on all three of my fish tanks I have put red duct tape on the glass where the light sets on. I absolutely love these fish and bearski method did a video showing my tanks to his subscribers.

2 months late, but they're not boring, piranhas are opportunistic ambush predators, your hand don't look helpless, but a rat swimming, a lone fish, insects above water, basilisks running on water, tadpoles, pretty much everything they know they can take on, they'll savagely tear apart, just like how humans, used to, and how chimps, wolves and hyenas still do

Yeah.... No They will go after you if they are hungry!!! just stick your finger in the water and wiggle it and be quick to pull it out. You'll probably see the one that is the hungriest go after your finger. The ones that I knew were fed live as well as dead food, so just some movement at the surface and its game on!

Here's the thing... They are very skidish... But what I do know is this... I've kept piranhas for over 20 years... If you don't feed them they will attack you... And what people don't ever talk about in the hobby is aggressive fish or temperamental fish will really get extremely aggressive when the heater is jacked up!! At around 84 degrees those piranhas at that size will need fed at least 3 times a week.. they will shoot to the top when they are hungry I've seen too many times...

My dad owned piranhas when I was younger. There were tons of them in this huge tank. I know he had some red-bellied ones and some yellow-bellied ones as well. There were two larger black ones, but I don’t know what species of piranha they were. He let me take two of them in for pet day in kindergarten, it was super cool

I hate how movies did aquatic animals like piranhas and sharks dirty, sharks are literally chill and lovely especially lemon sharks they like sea divers and pats, meanwhile piranhas are most likely neutral, they live in the amazon river where food for them is probably limited so they're just gonna chomp everything edible that falls into the water, also they're territorial especially males when female piranhas lay eggs, they will protect it from any potential threats including us.

I keep piranhas I've got 30 and I keep them in a massive conservatory pool that I had built and I jump in there with them and I'm still alive and they was every hungry at the time when I did it because my gf said to me them piranhas will kill me having 30 of them and she was shocked when I said to her let's prove that point than I said they are hungry so I jump in and nothing happened that shut her up for the month good video
