Telephone
Pitty Sing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

You don't really want me, you don't really want me, you don't really want me
Whatever I do, whatever I do, whatever I do
Easily when it's all I ever put together
Forever always, forever always
You don't understand me, you understand me, you don't understand me
Whatever I say, whatever I say, whatever I say
Easily when it's all the words I choose to serve you with
Forever always, forever always

Hey, hey babe you wanna be alone, but then you cry all night on the telephone
Hey , hey baby let there be no doubt there's still a lifetime till you got it all worked out
Hey, hey babe you wanna be alone, but then you cry all night on the telephone
Hey, hey babe I knew it all along that it would do you good for me to do wrong

It's all I ever did whatever

Overall Meaning

I do, you don't really want me. These lyrics convey a sense of rejection and confusion. The singer is addressing someone who repeatedly claims to want them, but doesn't act in a way that supports that claim. The repetition in the lyrics emphasizes the frustration and uncertainty the singer feels. Despite the singer's efforts, the other person doesn't seem to understand them, and the chosen words are not getting through to them. The line "Easily when it's all I ever put together" emphasizes that the singer is doing everything they can to make the relationship work, but the other person is not reciprocating.

The chorus shifts focus to how the other person contradicts themselves. They say they want to be alone, but then cry all night on the telephone. The singer is pointing out that the other person doesn't know what they want and is struggling to figure it out. The line "I knew it all along that it would do you good for me to do wrong" suggests that the singer realizes that sometimes the other person needs to learn life lessons on their own, and maybe they were holding them back. Overall, the song conveys a struggle in a relationship where one person is unsure of the other's feelings and intentions.

lost my mother at 16 back in 1977 . I was a bad boy and in juvenile detention and tried to call her one night and got no answer . the next day I found out she died. That night in the dorm someone was playing the radio and this song came on. I never felt so alone and sad in my life. I have always like the ELO version . But if anyone was going to try and remix this song I am glad it's you.

cbgreenbay Hope the time had healed. My mom died when I was 12

Oh wow, man. I have strong associations with this song same age, same year. Mine are all about girls and teenage angst. Yours made my heart ache. I hope your life has turned out well.

@jolene41062

I can't imagined how you got through that time. Not alone I hope.

@danielhernandez2575

I'm so sorry, I hope everything has turned out okay.

Ever since I first saw this guy I've loved his control. Pitch is immaculate and he KNOWS WHAT HE CAN'T DO. He stays right in that warm tenor timbre and throws strikes all day. Just fantastic to listen to.

“and throws strikes all day”…damn right

@Grievous-

No one does better duets with themselves than our Puddles.

I don't think there are too many voices that could match the phenomenally talented one of our man Puddles. The way he synced up his tone and the timing was perfect.
