They are widely credited to have spearheaded the "Shibuya-kei" movement of Tokyo in the 90s, along with Flipper's Guitar.
They are known for their eclectic and energetic compositions, which often sound like "new" releases from the late 1960s hipster scene. Their catchphrase--"A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular"--captured the group's ironic stance but eager attitude. The group broke up in March 2001.
A hugely prolific group, Pizzicato Five would release at least an album-per-year along with various EPs and remix albums during their 16 year-career.
Both Nomiya Maki (野宮真貴) and Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) currently enjoy solo careers - with Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) producing other artists ranging from Puffy and SMAP to Cornelius and kahimi karie(カヒミ・カリィ) - alongside collaborative remix compilations - from Ella Fitzgerald and The Supremes to classic Disney and Thunderbirds (as in Super-Marionated) music on his Shibuya-based Readymade Records label.
On Thursday March 31st, 2011, exactly 10 years after Pizzicato Five disbanded, Konishi Yasuharu announced a new solo project called Pizzicato One. The first release, titled One and Ten Very Sad Songs, consists of covers of English songs, each featuring vocals by various internationally-known artists from around the world.

How do you do?...
How do you do?...
How are you? I'm Fine!
What are you doing?
I am singing,
What did you do today?
I did soundcheck,
See you again...
Nice to meet you...
See you again...
Come again soon! Yes I'm sure,
Say "hello" to mama, yes I will,
Oh what's the matter? mmm, nothing!
What's the problem? It's okay,
I'm sorry...
See you later...
I'm sorry...
See you later...
Un, deux, trois, quatre...
Na na na na na na na na...
Have a nice day, the same to you
What time baby? 9 o'clock
Gonna have a good time?
I miss you
How do you think about it?
I don't know!
I'm happy...
How I love you...
I'm happy...
How I love you...
Puis je fumer? Oui, bien sur.
Bonjour, monsieur!
Comment-allez vous?
See'est combien,
Je ne comprends pas,
Au revoir monsieur,
A biento!
Sil vous plait...
Merci beaucoup...
Good, good, good, good,
Good!
The lyrics to Pizzicato Five's song Good are a series of conversational phrases in multiple languages. They begin with basic pleasantries - "How do you do?" and "How are you?" to which the response is "I'm fine!" They go on to ask and answer about each other's activities. The song then shifts to a list of casual inquiries and responses such as saying "Hello" to someone's mother, asking if the person is alright, and saying sorry. The song ends with a series of French phrases.
One interpretation of the song can be that it is depicting an average day in the life of a performer who is interacting with fans and other people in multiple languages. The constant repetition of "Nice to meet you... See you again..." portrays the cycle of meeting new people and interacting with them temporarily. The lyrics are simple, playful, and light-hearted, creating an atmosphere of conviviality and friendship that transcends language barriers.
