They are widely credited to have spearheaded the "Shibuya-kei" movement of Tokyo in the 90s, along with Flipper's Guitar.
They are known for their eclectic and energetic compositions, which often sound like "new" releases from the late 1960s hipster scene. Their catchphrase--"A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular"--captured the group's ironic stance but eager attitude. The group broke up in March 2001.
A hugely prolific group, Pizzicato Five would release at least an album-per-year along with various EPs and remix albums during their 16 year-career.
Both Nomiya Maki (野宮真貴) and Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) currently enjoy solo careers - with Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) producing other artists ranging from Puffy and SMAP to Cornelius and kahimi karie(カヒミ・カリィ) - alongside collaborative remix compilations - from Ella Fitzgerald and The Supremes to classic Disney and Thunderbirds (as in Super-Marionated) music on his Shibuya-based Readymade Records label.
On Thursday March 31st, 2011, exactly 10 years after Pizzicato Five disbanded, Konishi Yasuharu announced a new solo project called Pizzicato One. The first release, titled One and Ten Very Sad Songs, consists of covers of English songs, each featuring vocals by various internationally-known artists from around the world.

Do you remember
The first day of our love?
It ought not to be
Such an old story
Where was the party
Where we happened to meet?
What did we talk about?
About rare records?
Don't you remember
My hair style?
Is the only thing you remember
Our kiss that night?
Where's our love
Now, what will
Happen to us ?
Forgetting myself
Feeling blue
My heart's ready to break
But
Please
Pretend not to know
The answer yet
Then, the next day
We fell in love
Do you believe in
Love at first sight?
Unbridled love is
Quite like a rodeo
Where did you park
Your little red car that night?
Our love goes on
But what will
Tomorrow bring?
I feel like I want to
Throw open a big window
And scream
But nobody can
See the future
Soon our love will end
Is it destiny?
Will this throbbing thrill
Suddenly fade away?
I want us to
Keep the world warm forever, but
Where's your little red car
Going to now?
Forgetting myself
Feeling blue
My heart's ready to break
Lovers
Keep repeating
These questions without an answer
Pizzicato Five’s “Questions” is a love song that explores the uncertainty and ambiguity that comes with falling in love. The lyrics are filled with questions about the past, present, and future of the relationship. The song questions whether the couples' love was truly love at first sight, where it will lead, and if it will last. The singer seems to be wrestling with the idea that the future of the romance is unknowable and unpredictable.
The lyricist offers a few glimpses into their past experiences, like where the couple met and what they talked about, as well as nostalgic references to rare records and the singer's hairstyle. However, the song's central message remains - that the only thing lovers can be certain of is their own questions and the lack of answers.
In the end, the song finishes by bleakly suggesting that the questions will continue repeating without an answer, and that much like the little red car mentioned earlier in the song, the couple's love may ultimately lead to an unknown destination.

Holy $#it what a masterpiece. It might even be my favourite P5 album (so hard to choose)! Wow sounds even better than 1996. Konishi sensei is a genius. Timeless. No. It sounds like the future as well as disarmingly nostalgic. All Feelz.
