They are widely credited to have spearheaded the "Shibuya-kei" movement of Tokyo in the 90s, along with Flipper's Guitar.
They are known for their eclectic and energetic compositions, which often sound like "new" releases from the late 1960s hipster scene. Their catchphrase--"A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular"--captured the group's ironic stance but eager attitude. The group broke up in March 2001.
A hugely prolific group, Pizzicato Five would release at least an album-per-year along with various EPs and remix albums during their 16 year-career.
Both Nomiya Maki (野宮真貴) and Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) currently enjoy solo careers - with Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) producing other artists ranging from Puffy and SMAP to Cornelius and kahimi karie(カヒミ・カリィ) - alongside collaborative remix compilations - from Ella Fitzgerald and The Supremes to classic Disney and Thunderbirds (as in Super-Marionated) music on his Shibuya-based Readymade Records label.
On Thursday March 31st, 2011, exactly 10 years after Pizzicato Five disbanded, Konishi Yasuharu announced a new solo project called Pizzicato One. The first release, titled One and Ten Very Sad Songs, consists of covers of English songs, each featuring vocals by various internationally-known artists from around the world.
Such A Beautiful Girl Like You

in the morning
I am all by myself in the bath
I don't have a single
plan yet today, though
I'll take my time
today I'll shampoo
as best as I can
why is a girl as beautiful
as you crying?
there is no girl
as wonderful as you anywhere
It's 3 in the afternoon
and there's no end
I saw the same dream as always
I unexpectedly met with the familiar
face of a friend
and said goodbye
it's a sunny day and the wind is
somewhat colder than yesterday
I was just staring vacantly
at the city through the window pane
why is a girl as beautiful
as you crying?
there is no girl
as wonderful as you anywhere
during really sad times
I had better cry as much as I want
but I don't even know
why I am crying
why is a girl as beautiful
as you crying?
there is no girl
as wonderful as you anywhere
It's a little bit past midnight
I am all by myself in the bedroom
I can't sleep so I call someone
I can sleep now, though
The song "Such A Beautiful Girl Like You" by Pizzicato Five explores the emotional state of a young woman who seems to be crying for reasons unknown to herself or to those around her. The song is told through a series of vignettes, each describing a different moment in the character's day. In the first verse, we learn that the woman is alone in the bath, without any plans for the day. She is taking her time, washing away her worries, and yet she is still crying. The second verse takes place in the afternoon, where the woman has had a dream that causes her sadness. She feels lost and alone, staring vacantly out of her window. Once again, she is crying, and nobody seems to know why.
The chorus of the song asks the same question, "why is a girl as beautiful as you crying?" This line is interesting because it speaks to the common societal assumption that beauty equates to happiness. The song challenges this assumption by pointing out that someone can be beautiful and still be struggling. The song ends with the woman in her bedroom, unable to sleep. She reaches out to someone for comfort, and finally, she is able to rest.
Overall, "Such A Beautiful Girl Like You" is a melancholy ode to the complexities of the human experience. It reminds us that, no matter how perfect things may appear on the surface, everyone has their struggles and inner turmoil.

O slogan "Um novo e espectacular som estereofônico " captura a postura irônica e atitude ansiosa do grupo.
