It had been performed live with TAJIMA Takao (later of オリジナル・ラヴ) as its lead singer, a recording of which can be found on the compilation THE BAND OF 20TH CENTURY.
Its first appearance on disc was as ラヴァーズ・ロック (Lovers' Rock) in an extended dub mix with the vocals by Takanami and 野宮真貴 on the 1990 EP of the same name (this version is also included in THE BAND OF 20TH CENTURY).
A colder, more electronic version was released as トーキョーズ・クーレスト・サウンド (Tōkyō's Coolest Sound) on the 1991 EP 超高速のピチカート・ファイヴ (Chō-Kōsoku no Pizzicato Five).
A final version which brought the song back its reggae roots but in a shorter and more upbeat version with only Nomiya singing appeared as TOKYO'S COOLEST SOUND on the album 女性上位時代 (Josei Jōi Jidai) later in 1991.

Together on a summer morning
Basking in the gentle rain
Clear green
Whispering words of love
But lovers
Always pretend not to hear
Lovers
Lovers
Just smile
Together on a summer afternoon
Sleeping on the grass
The green melts away
And the season
Changes but
Lovers pretend not to notice
Lovers
Lovers
Just smile
The lyrics to Pizzicato Five's song Tokyo's Coolest Sound paint a picture of two lovers spending time together in the summer rain and sun, enjoying the greenery around them. The first verse describes the two experiencing a gentle rain with the color green all around them. The second verse describes them sleeping on grass on an afternoon where the green around them melts away. However, despite their whispered words of love, the lovers pretend not to hear or notice anything around them and only smile.
The lyrics might be interpreted as a commentary on the fleeting nature of love and how we often choose to ignore the changes around us in order to stay in the moment with the one we love. The song's style is a fusion of J-pop and bossa nova, reflecting Pizzicato Five's signature sound. It features sampled and synthesized sounds alongside traditional instruments, and the mix of sounds creates a unique and catchy tune.

Holy $#it what a masterpiece. It might even be my favourite P5 album (so hard to choose)! Wow sounds even better than 1996. Konishi sensei is a genius. Timeless. No. It sounds like the future as well as disarmingly nostalgic. All Feelz.
