Every You Every Me
Placebo-Acoustic Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You pucker up, our passion's spent
My heart's a tart, your body's rent
My body's broken, yours is spent
Carve your name into my arm
Instead of stressed I lie here charmed
'Cause there's nothing else to doEvery me and every you
Sucker love a box I choose
No other box I choose to use
Another love I would abuse
No circumstances could excuse
In the shape of things to come
Too much poison, come undone
'Cause there's nothing else to do
Every me and every you
Every me and every you
Every me
Sucker love, who's known to swing
Prone to cling and waste these things
Pucker up for heaven's sake
There's never been so much at stake
I serve my head up on a plate
It's only comfort, calling late
'Cause there's nothing else to do
Every me and every you
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me
Like the naked leads the blind
I know I'm selfish, I'm unkind
Sucker love, I always find
Someone to bruise and leave behind
All alone in space and time
There's nothing here, but what here's mine?
Something borrowed, something blue
Every me and every you
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
The lyrics of Placebo's song "Every You Every Me" delve into themes of love, relationships, and the complexities of human emotions. The opening lines, "Sucker love is heaven sent, You pucker up, our passion's spent," suggest a sense of disillusionment or dissatisfaction in a romantic relationship. The mention of "My heart's a tart, your body's rent, My body's broken, yours is spent" underscores a feeling of emotional and physical exhaustion in the relationship, highlighting a sense of imbalance and perhaps even exploitation.
The repetition of "Every me and every you" throughout the song emphasizes the idea of mirroring and interconnectedness between two individuals. The line "Carve your name into my arm, Instead of stressed I lie here charmed" could symbolize a desire for a deeper, more permanent connection, even if it involves pain. The concept of using physical acts to express emotion is prevalent in these lines, indicating a need for tangible markers of love and presence.
The lyrics also touch upon themes of self-destructive behavior and toxic love patterns. Lines like "Sucker love a box I choose, No other box I choose to use, Another love I would abuse" suggest a pattern of seeking out destructive relationships and mistreatment. The reference to "Too much poison, come undone" hints at the detrimental effects of such relationships and the eventual unraveling of the individuals involved.
The chorus, with its repetition of "Every me and every you," hints at a cycle of mutual hurt and vulnerability in the relationship. The closing lines, "All alone in space and time, There's nothing here, but what here's mine, Something borrowed, something blue," evoke a sense of isolation and transience, highlighting the temporary nature of human connections. Overall, the song conveys a sense of longing, conflict, and introspection in navigating the complexities of love and human relationships.

Something borrow and something blue like the weedings. Like the life too: borrowed and blue (sad).

Used to travel on Turkish Airlines quite often and they had this whole show on their on board entertainment. Used to re play this song over and over, through the entire flight.....just amazing....thanks for sharing it.

Absolutely. Just love it.

Love the different emotions this version brings out vs the original. Original is up tempo and has almost a manic pace; which I interpret as representing the constant and almost manic thoughts someone with “sucker love” has. You think about a thousand things a minute - all related to the object of your infatuation - do they love me? What does this mean? Why didn’t the call back? Who are they talking to? etc. It’s a constant action packed roller coaster which is what the original is pace-wise.
This version is still great and stripping it down gives it almost a forlorn and morose feeling. Much sadder than the original - almost as if it’s post-breakup and you are dealing with the aching of loss.
Same lyrics but totally different meaning which means it’s an amazing song.
