1) Placebo is… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least four artists with the name Placebo:
1) Placebo is a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1994 by vocalist-guitarist Brian Molko and bassist-guitarist Stefan Olsdal. Drummer Robert Schultzberg joined in late 1994 but left in 1996 shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album due to conflicts with Molko. He was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt. Molko was born in Belgium, and Olsdal and Schultzberg were born in Sweden. Remaining members Molko and Olsdal both grew up in Luxembourg before separately relocating to London and are both British citizens.
Following the release of a demo, a split single, and their eponymous debut album, Placebo gained exposure in 1997 after the single "Nancy Boy" became popular in the UK, a song notorious at the time for its gender-bending content. The band stood out among the Britpop scene they were associated with at the time for their androgynous appearance and musical content, as well as Molko's distinctive voice and lyrics which openly discussed sexuality, mental health, and drug use.
Hewitt left Placebo in 2007 due to personal and musical differences. He was replaced the following year by Steve Forrest. Placebo released two albums with Forrest, who left in 2015 to pursue his own musical career. Since 2015, Placebo has been officially a duo, though augmented with additional musicians.
Placebo has collaborated with various artists over the years, including David Bowie, Justin Warfield, Michael Stipe, and Alison Mosshart. To date, Placebo has released eight studio albums, all of which have reached the Top 20 in the United Kingdom, and have sold around 14 million records worldwide.

Time to imbibe here's to you
I'll tell you stories bruised and blue
Of drum machines and land slides
Just one more round before we're through
More psychedelic yuppie flu
Its such a silly thing to do
Let's follow the cops back home
Follow the cops back home
Lets follow the cops back home
And rob their houses
The call to arms was never true
Lets take a ride and push it through
Suspended animation glue
Blame it on apartheid
Lets spend the night in jimmy choose
I'll give you coats and cheap shampoo
I'll give you nothing else to do
And now we're stuck on rewind
Let's follow the cops back home
Follow the cops back home
Lets follow the cops back home
And rob their houses
The call to arms was never true
I'm medicated how are you?
Lets take a dive swim right through
Sophisticated points of view
Let's follow the cops back home
Follow the cops back home
Lets follow the cops back home
And rob their houses
Let's follow the cops back home
Follow the cops back home
Lets follow the cops back home
And rob their houses
The lyrics of Placebo's song "Follow the Cops Back Home" present a narrative about a group of people who are looking for a way out of their mundane lives through reckless and desperate actions. The song begins with the lyrics "the call to arms was never true," suggesting that the idea of fighting or resisting against something was never genuine or real. The following lines "time to imbibe, here's to you, I'll tell you stories bruised and blue" sets the stage for a night of drinking and storytelling. The lyrics "of drum machines and landslides, just one more round before we're through" paint a picture of a group of people who are looking for a way out of their mundane lives through hedonistic and possibly destructive behavior.
The lyrics "let's follow the cops back home and rob their houses" suggest that the group's actions are not innocent and may even be criminal. The repetition of these lines throughout the song emphasizes the desperation and the naivety of the characters' actions. The lyrics "I'll give you coats and cheap shampoo, I'll give you nothing else to do" imply that the characters are looking for excitement and escape from their mundane lives but ultimately have nothing to offer each other except for empty promises and dangerous thrills.
In conclusion, the lyrics of "Follow the Cops Back Home" offer a dark and cynical commentary on the human craving for escape and excitement. The characters in the song are portrayed as lost and desperate, willing to do anything to escape their mundane realities, even if it means breaking the law.
