First appearing in 1993 in Rio de Janeiro, with politically charged lyrics about marijuana legalization, they started playing concerts in Rio de Janeiro and other capitals, such as Belo Horizonte, São Paulo and Curitiba.
Planet Hemp began attracting mainstream attention due to the violent outbreaks which were common during their concerts. In 1994 Skunk, one of the original band members passed away, interrupting Planet Hemp's career for some time, but after B Negão joined the group they signed a contract with Sony Music, releasing "Usuário" in 1995.
The album turned the band into an icon of the 90s Brazilian rock, with successful hits such as "Mantenha o Respeito", "Legalize Já", "Fazendo a Cabeça" and the controversial "Porcos Fardados" (Pigs in Uniform), a critique of the police brutality.
Because of their commitment and lyrics towards the legalization of marijuana, Planet Hemp has had issues with the Brazilian authorities. This tension has lead to apprehended records, cancelled concerts and prison warrants (in Brazil it is illegal to promote/defend the use of prohibited substances, including but not limited to weed).
The band ended in 2001, due to internal conflicts regarding Marcelo D2 solo career.

Teu cabelo é de sereia
E a pergunta que não sai da mente
Qual é o pente que te penteia
Quando tu entra na roda
O teu corpo bamboleia
Teu cabelo a couve flor
Tem um "que" que me tonteia
Qual é o pente que te penteia
Misamplis a ferro e fogo
Não desmancha nem na areia
Toma banho em Botafogo
Qual é o pente que te penteia
Nega do cabelo duro
Oh nega
Qual é o pente que te penteia
Qual é o pente que te penteia
Qual é o pente que te penteia
The lyrics of Planet Hemp's song "Nega Do Cabelo Duro" celebrate the beauty and power of black women, particularly the unique qualities of their hair. The song describes the singer's fascination with a woman whose hair is "ondulado e permanente" (wavy and permanent), and compares it to the hair of a mermaid. The singer can't help but wonder what kind of comb or brush she uses to get such perfect curls, and watches mesmerized as she moves her body to the rhythm. The song includes references to the Brazilian city of Botafogo, where the singer imagines his love taking a bath, and to "misamplis a ferro e fogo," a local salon that specializes in hair care.
Throughout the song, the singer uses a series of metaphors to describe the woman's hair, comparing it to a cauliflower ("couve flor") that makes him dizzy ("que me tonteia"). The repeated question of "Qual é o pente que te penteia" (What comb or brush do you use?) emphasizes the song's focus on the woman's hair as a symbol of her unique beauty and power. The song's title, "Nega Do Cabelo Duro," is a term that combines a racial slur ("nega") with a reference to the resilience and strength of black women's hair ("cabelo duro"), a contrast that highlights the discrimination and prejudice faced by black women in Brazilian society.

Mas estamos em tempos de tantas censuras e ditadores e muitos achando que seria o presidente que iria fazer... atentem para o povo do não pode, estão formando pessoas fracas que não aguentam pressão.
