gaitou de mata HIRA-HIRA
ibasho ga nakute kurutta kage no you na KOUMORI

nani kara hajimete miru?
kyou wa sou da na, dare to umaku shaberou
usuguraku nari-daseba, kitto boku o mukae ni kuru-hazu

kuusou no inu tsurete, kareta kusa ni suwatte kimi to zutto hanashiteta
ookii kaze ga fuitara, sakki NOOTO ni tsuzutta kotoba ga nagareta

nani kara hajimete miru?

boku wa kimi to ne, nanika sagashitai kedo
usuguraku nari-daseba, kimi o dareka mukae ni kuru kara

Overall Meaning

In Plastic Tree's song Gentou Kikai, the singer describes a scene of chaos and isolation. The first verse sets the stage with the image of fluttering curtains and a bat-like shadow, suggesting a sense of uncertainty and unease. The second verse shifts to a more introspective tone, as the singer reflects on their own feelings of loneliness and their desire for connection. They mention a dog of their imagination, which they used to talk to while sitting in a field of withered grass, and how they wish someone would come to meet them if they were to ever disappear. The chorus repeats the lines "what am I seeing for the first time?" and "if I become less popular, I'm sure someone will come to greet me," evoking a longing for meaning and affirmation.

Overall, the song seems to be about the human desire for connection and understanding, even in the face of chaos and isolation. The image of the bat-like shadow and the malfunctioning machine suggest a disorienting environment, but the singer still holds onto the hope that someone will come for them if they need it. The song is a poignant reflection on the challenges of human relationships and the effort required to maintain them.
