Ryutaro and Tadashi wanted to combine two words to form the band name; something artificial and something natural. After trying a few combinations, they decided on ‘Plastic Tree’. Formerly, there were rumours floating around the web about the band’s name coming from Fake Plastic Trees but this was always disputed due to timing inconsistencies.
In the beginning, Plastic Tree were influenced greatly by The Cure. There was also a large britrock influence. Plastic Tree played a mix of indie rock, punk, and heavier grunge, characterized by Ryutaro’s generic Visual Kei voice and gloomy lyrics. They went through a period where they played more pop-rock and radio-style rock music, although they have recently returned from lighter music to their original roots.
In July 2006, Plastic Tree embarked on their first world tour that took them to Germany, France and Finland.
On the 23rd of February 2009, Sasabuchi Hiroshi left the band and was later replaced by Satou Kenken..

The opening lines of Plastic Tree's song "Namae no nai hana" describe a dreamlike state of being trapped in a dull and lifeless city for what seems like an eternity. The singer has grown weary and tired of their surroundings, and the intersection where they stand is both overshadowed by the flickering sunlight and confusing to navigate through. As they muse to themselves about all the goodbyes they've said in this place, an ethereal melody floats to the surface of their thoughts, giving them a sense of hope and wonder - a momentary break from their mundane existence.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on their desire to break free from their current situation and live a life that feels more vibrant and fulfilling. They look up at the sky, longing for a chance to soar away from their troubles and uncertainties. They marvel at the clouds, believing that they hold some kind of mystical power to transform their reality. Eventually, they confront their own emotions head-on, embracing the pain and sadness that they've been so desperate to avoid. But even as they wade through these difficult feelings, the singer never loses sight of the beauty and potential of the world around them.
Overall, "Namae no nai hana" is a song about longing, self-discovery, and the transformative power of music and art. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a person struggling to find their place in the world, but still holding onto the hope that someday, they'll bloom into something beautiful and meaningful.
