Ryutaro and Tadashi wanted to combine two words to form the band name; something artificial and something natural. After trying a few combinations, they decided on ‘Plastic Tree’. Formerly, there were rumours floating around the web about the band’s name coming from Fake Plastic Trees but this was always disputed due to timing inconsistencies.
In the beginning, Plastic Tree were influenced greatly by The Cure. There was also a large britrock influence. Plastic Tree played a mix of indie rock, punk, and heavier grunge, characterized by Ryutaro’s generic Visual Kei voice and gloomy lyrics. They went through a period where they played more pop-rock and radio-style rock music, although they have recently returned from lighter music to their original roots.
In July 2006, Plastic Tree embarked on their first world tour that took them to Germany, France and Finland.
On the 23rd of February 2009, Sasabuchi Hiroshi left the band and was later replaced by Satou Kenken..

The lyrics to Plastic Tree's song "Namida Drop" portray the feeling of heartbreak and the pain that comes with moving on. The opening lines describe a town at dusk, where forgotten items are lying around. The singer hears a voice that sounds like their former lover, and they try to hold back their emotions from shattering them. They call out their former lover’s name and express their feelings. They repeat that they met with their loved one in a rotating world of love. However, as tears fall, the singer is uncertain of what will be left when the goodbye is finally said, wondering what will be left when the tears dry.
As the song progresses, the singer describes the aftermath of a break-up. The town is now in darkness, and the separation between lovers is complete. Memories are all that are left, and the singer cannot help but pick them up and hold onto them. The singer explains how even after all this time, they experienced physical pain from their past memories. They want to forget but feel trapped, holding onto their past experiences implied by the scattered sketches they have saved. Finally, the singer asks where their former lover is now and what they are doing while desperately hoping that they are doing well.

This is my favorite Plastic Tree song :) I love to sing it, but I always run out of breath while singing the chorus. I have to pay attention to Ryuutarou to see when he's breathing xD
