Ryutaro and Tadashi wanted to combine two words to form the band name; something artificial and something natural. After trying a few combinations, they decided on ‘Plastic Tree’. Formerly, there were rumours floating around the web about the band’s name coming from Fake Plastic Trees but this was always disputed due to timing inconsistencies.
In the beginning, Plastic Tree were influenced greatly by The Cure. There was also a large britrock influence. Plastic Tree played a mix of indie rock, punk, and heavier grunge, characterized by Ryutaro’s generic Visual Kei voice and gloomy lyrics. They went through a period where they played more pop-rock and radio-style rock music, although they have recently returned from lighter music to their original roots.
In July 2006, Plastic Tree embarked on their first world tour that took them to Germany, France and Finland.
On the 23rd of February 2009, Sasabuchi Hiroshi left the band and was later replaced by Satou Kenken..

The lyrics in Plastic Tree's song Replay convey a sense of nostalgia and longing for the past, as well as hope for the future. The opening lines compare their experience to riding a ferris wheel in its final revolution, floating through the night with their loved one. The city lights below form a panorama against the starry sky, a visual reminder of the beauty in the world.
There's a warmth in their right hand that they believe will one day shine on someone else. The rhythm of their heartbeat quickens as they shout out their lover's name. Asking if the promise to meet again someday is some kind of magic, they apologize, give thanks, and say goodbye in words that feel insufficient. They're weighed down by emotions and memories that make them feel distant from the future.
In the midst of the darkness, they journey on with their partner, seeking the light; their love hurts so much it's unbearable. The two of them are at the center of the slowly turning ferris wheel, searching through the night for the light. The pain in their hearts is so deep that they're unaware of the passing of time. They continue to spin around and around, as if trapped in the same moment they remember so fondly.
