Ebb tide
Platters (the) Lyrics

Then rolls out to sea and the sea is very still once more
So I rush to your side like the oncoming tide
With one burning thought, will your arms open wide?
At last face to face, and as we kiss through an embrace
I can tell, I can feel you are love, you are real
Really mine in the rain, in the dark, in the sun
Like the tide at its ebb I'm at peace in the web of your arms
First the tide rushes in, plants a kiss on the shore
Then rolls out to sea and the sea is very still once more
So I rush to your side like the oncoming tide
With one burning thought, will your arms open wide?
At last face to face, and as we kiss through an embrace
I can tell, I can feel you are love, you are real
Really mine in the rain, in the dark, in the sun
Like the tide at its ebb I'm at peace in the web of your arms
The Platters’ hit song “Ebb Tide” is a love ballad that uses the metaphor of the ebb and flow of the tide to describe the emotions of the song’s narrator. The opening lines describe how the tide rushes in to kiss the shore, then rolls out to sea, leaving the sea calm and still once again. This serves as an image of how the singer rushes to their lover’s side with one burning thought: whether their arms will open wide to receive them like the welcoming tide. When they finally embrace, the singer can feel that their lover is real and truly theirs, regardless of circumstance or weather. They find peace in the love that surrounds them, just as the tide finds rest in the calm of the sea’s ebb.

First the tide rushes in
Plants a kiss on the shore
Then rolls out to sea
And the sea is very still once more
So I rush to your side
Like the oncoming tide
With one burning thought
Will your arms open wide
At last we're face to face
And as we kiss through an embrace
I can tell, I, I can feel
You are love, you are real
Really mine in the rain
In the dark, in the sun
Like the tide at its ebb
I'm at peace in the web of your arms

I don't know if any other group has ever matched the haunting elegance and beauty of The Platters. Even though they helped define the sound of R&B in the 1950s there is an otherworldly quality about them that seems to transcend time.
Sun Tzu
That otherworldly quality has a name, and its TONY WILLIAMS.

Tony williams was undoughtibly one of the greatest tenors ever to lend his golden voice to R&B. his voice was so clear, and beautiful. the tone was pure silk, with so much feeling and emotion. god bless you tony for all the pleasure you have bestowed on us. i know the lord welcomed you through the pearly gates of heaven, and said a special prayer for you welcoming you home. rest in peace. This is a truly amazing and emotional song to me, my Dad chose it to be played at his funeral when he was dying. He died at the age of 49 and this song reduces me to tears whenever I hear it. I wish I had known my Dad more, this song reminds me of the emotional person he really was. Love you Daddy xxxx
