If I Didn't Care
Platters (the) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
If I didn't care would I feel this way?
If this isn't love then why do I thrill?
And what makes my head go 'round and 'round
While my heart stands still?
If I didn't care would it be the same?
Would my ev'ry prayer begin and end with just your name?
Would all this be true if I didn't care for you?
MONOLOGUE: If I didn't care honey child, mo' than words can say. If I didn't
care baby, would I feel this way? Darlin' if this isn't love, then why do I thrill so
much? What is it that makes my head go 'round and 'round while my heart just stands
still so much ?
If I didn't care would it be the same?
Would my ev'ry prayer begin and end with just your name?
And would I be sure that this is love beyond compare?
Would all this be true if I didn't care for you
The Platters' song "If I Didn't Care" is a classic tune about the intensity of love and the fear of losing it. The song speaks about the singer's deep feelings towards their loved one, questioning whether their emotions could ever be the same if they didn't care as deeply. The lyrics convey a feeling of uncertainty and vulnerability, with lines like "If this isn't love then why do I thrill?" and "And what makes my head go 'round and 'round, while my heart stands still?" This creates a sense of confusion, suggesting that the singer is lost and unsure of their own feelings towards their loved one.
The lyrics also speak to the idea of the singer's connection to their loved one being all-consuming, with lines like "Would my ev'ry prayer begin and end with just your name?" and "Would all this be true if I didn't care for you?" suggesting that the singer's love is the center of their world. This creates a sense of a deep emotional attachment and devotion to their beloved, creating a vacuum-like effect where nothing else matters except their partner's affection.
Overall, "If I Didn't Care" is a song about the intensity of love and the fear of losing it. It conveys a sense of uncertainty and vulnerability while also emphasizing the all-consuming nature of love.

I love it when we Blacks sang with perfect diction and enunciation of words. Tony Willams nails it here. This era is long gone and I sorely miss it. Rest in peace all of you original 5 Platters.
