My Prayer
Platters The Lyrics

And no songbirds are singing
When the twilight is gone
You come into my heart
And here in my heart you will stay
While I pray
My prayer is to linger with you
In a dream that's divine
My prayer is a rapture in blue
With the world far away
And your lips close to mine
Tonight while our hearts are aglow
Oh, tell me the words that I'm longing to know
My prayer and the answer you give
May they still be the same for as long as we live
That you'll always be there
At the end of my prayer
The Platters’ song “My Prayer” is a romantic ballad that describes a deep yearning for a special someone. The opening lyrics, “When the twilight is gone, and no songbirds are singing,” sets a melancholic tone for the song. It speaks of a particular circumstance when the world is quiet, and there is a sense of loneliness. Nevertheless, the mood changes as the singer's love interest comes into their heart, and they pray.
The chorus, “My prayer is to linger with you at the end of the day, in a dream that’s divine,” reinforces the singer's central theme that they want to be with their beloved. The words express their desire to remain with their beloved at the end of the day and create a dream that is entirely theirs. The singer also speaks about their prayer being a “rapture in blue,” which means they do not understand why they feel so intensely about their love interest. They want the world to fade away, leaving only their significant other and themselves. The song ends with the singer asking their love interest to stay with them, and they hope that the answer to their prayer will always be positive.

When the twilight is gone
When the sun has set
And no songbirds are singing
And there are no more sounds of nature
When the twilight is gone
When the day has ended
You come into my heart
You come into my thoughts and emotions
And here in my heart you will stay
You will remain in my heart always
While I pray
While I speak to God
My prayer is to linger with you
I pray to spend time with you
At the end of the day
After everything else has ended
In a dream that's divine
In a beautiful and sacred dream
My prayer is a rapture in blue
I pray for a joyful and blissful moment
With the world far away
In a place where nothing else matters
And your lips close to mine
With you in a romantic and intimate embrace
Tonight while our hearts are aglow
Right now, while we are both feeling happy and in love
Oh, tell me the words that I'm longing to know
Please say what I am yearning to hear
My prayer and the answer you give
I pray and wait for your response
May they still be the same for as long as we live
May our feelings for each other never change throughout our lives
That you'll always be there
That you will always be by my side
At the end of my prayer
When I finish speaking to God

High school in the mid 50's was a trip.My class back east was '58,
and THE PLATTERS were just terrific back then, hit after hit, the BEST slow
music to dance to ever. We were so cool, we never even knew how lucky we were,
or how it all would change forever shortly thereafter. That fabulous music, those beautiful girls, the unbelievable cars - what a time it was to be young & alive!
Hail hail rock 'n' roll!

This song gives me goosebumps.
I'm 75, and it still takes me back to when I was a pre-teen.
Tony Williams had the voice and looks of an angel.

My late Dad loved the Platters. He was dying when I was married the first time.. My second time he was gone... My Husband and I danced to this song for our first dance at our wedding reception.. To this day... (34 years later on August 1, 2021) I still tear up... Rest in Peace, Daddy, I found my Mr. Right..... Love, your mad cap first born...
