Glide
Pleasure Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Car won't start, out of gas
Check past two, reserves won't last
Caught the bus to go downtown
Bus broke down, downtown bound
Left the bus, flagged down a cab
The driver said, "I want all your cash"

Don't let that keep you behind
Glide, glide on by
Glide, glide on by
Don't let that keep you behind
Glide, glide on by
Glide, glide on by

The next time you blow your mind
Glide, glide on by
Glide, glide on by
The next time you blow your mind

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Pleasure's song Glide portray a message of perseverance and overcoming obstacles despite setbacks. The first verse tells a story of encountering multiple issues with transportation, from the car breaking down to the reserves running out and the bus ultimately breaking down. In the second verse, the singer is mugged by a cab driver, but despite all of these setbacks, the chorus reinforces the message of moving past the obstacles and "gliding" past them. The repetition of "glide, glide on by" reinforces this message of perseverance and determination, encouraging listeners to not let setbacks derail them from their goals and dreams.

The lyrics also touch on the idea that setbacks are a normal part of life, with the line "The next time you blow your mind" suggesting that there will be future setbacks and challenges to come. However, the message remains the same - do not let these setbacks hold you back and instead continue to "glide" through life.

Overall, Glide delivers a message of hope and encouragement, emphasizing the importance of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.

As a bassist in high school, I auditioned for a band. I misunderstood Glide to be the song they wanted me to learn. I practiced day and night for a couple of weeks only to find out that the song they want me to learn was Slide. Needless to say, Glide was one of the funkiest songs that I have ever learned, and yes it only took me 5 minutes to learn Slide (albeit another funky bass line).
