Saw the Birthday Party twice in the early 1980s, they were superb.
Only the Fall matched them. Those were the days...........

Hard to believe that Nick Cave has made to sixty years of age!

Tracy Pew and Roland S Howard RIP. Two great musicians
gone before their time.

Closest thing we've gotten to this sound since was The Horrors debut EP and LP. Such a manic, iconic sound and aesthetic

Giuseppe Adamo

The Horrors are more like The Birthday Party action figures. Totally fake.

Ian C Bishop

Jesus Lizard had the power of the Birthday Party at times. But never quite as manic and searing or blazing hot as the original B.P. Aussie noise niks.

Great video! I think Hamlet is their best song, never get tired of seeing it live!

Holy Cow! I did not know... that you popped this up...would like to tell you...thank you, very much! Had the VHS, back in the 80s, mums cat puked all over my tape collection, no, I didn't kill the cat...found the DVD, couple years back, really a killer example of "outback rock", tried to get the Ramones to like these guys (used to do merchandise for them) none of them were interested (their loss) can't believe there's no notes on this, absolutely fantastic!

Evil EVIL mom's cat, Meow meow Brahm's classic music cat eating Whiskas, sneeringly eating putrid fish then vomiting on masterpiece tapes, DIEEEEE EVIL CAT!

Layne1727 yeah, Dee Dee was the only one who, gave them a listen (on the bus) he swiped a few of my tapes, I had this Browning Automatic Rifle magazine belt, I carried my sounds in. He took the whole belt, brought it back, half empty! Lil bastard nick'd my TG bootleg, my Sonics, he really was my fave ramone, the rest of them hated everything I liked. I missed BP 3 times, running back n forth round europe, finally had some down time, and, just my luck, they were coming to L.A. , and, I was stoked! My heroes from down under...not a big fan of Lydia, she opened up for them. Most of the crowd weren't too fond of her, as well...lotsa booing n ice being tossed at her...(I enjoyed that) but, I think...BP were a great mixture, the chemistry between them was insane! Only saw them once...and, I'm a Rowland fanatic, forever!

I forgot that I had it. You're welcome! I should have uploaded as soons as I put my hands on it, but I was so focused on the BP bootlegs. Thank god you didn't kill the cat! haha
You used to do merchandise for The Ramones? Ace! I guess BP were too raw for them, but It's funny Dee Dee wasn't a fan. He used to like hardcore bands.
