Stranded
Plumb Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You know it only breaks my heart
To see you standing in the dark alone
Waiting there for me to come back
I'm too afraid to show

If it's coming over you
Like it's coming over me
I'm crashing like a tidal wave
That drags me out to sea
And I want to be with you
You want to be with me
I'm crashing like a tidal wave
And I don't want to be
Stranded, stranded, stranded, stranded

I can only take so much
These tears are turning me to rust
And I know you're waiting there for me
To come back
I'm too afraid to show

If it's coming over you
Like it's coming over me
I'm crashing like a tidal wave
That drags me out to sea
And I want to be with you
You want to be with me
I'm crashing like a tidal wave
And I don't want to be
Stranded, stranded, stranded, stranded

I miss you, I need you
Without you I'm stranded
I love you so come back
I'm not afraid to show

If it's coming over you
Like it's coming over me
I'm crashing like a tidal wave
That drags me out to sea
And I want to be with you
You want to be with me
I'm crashing like a tidal wave

And I don't want to be
Stranded, stranded, stranded, stranded

Overall Meaning

The overall message conveyed in Plumb's song "Stranded" is one of pleading and longing for reconciliation, while also admitting to being too afraid to show vulnerability. The lyrics of the song suggest that two people were once together, but something caused a rift in their relationship. Now, one person is waiting alone in the dark for the other to return, but the other is scared to confront their inner feelings and show their true self. The use of the metaphor of a tidal wave evokes a sense of helplessness and being swept away by a force beyond one's control.

The repetition of the word "stranded" throughout the song reinforces the feeling of being abandoned and isolated. The repetition also creates a sense of desperation and urgency in the singer's pleas to be reunited with their loved one. In the final stanza, the singer professes their love and acknowledges that they need the other person. They try to appeal to them, saying that without them, they are stranded and unable to move on.

The song captures the struggle of expressing one's emotions and the fear of rejection that often comes along with it. It is a universal theme that many can relate to, regardless of what caused the original separation. The haunting melody and emotive vocals add to the overall intensity of the song, evoking a sense of vulnerability and raw emotion.

I first heard this song when the movie β€œDrive me crazy” came out.
We were camping and I was constantly telling my mum I was bored. She went and bought me some dvds to watch and β€œdrive me crazy” was one of them.
I watched the movie again last night and I heard this song for the first time in years. It reminded me of my mum. πŸ‘ΌπŸΌ I miss her every single day.
Such an underrated song. Beautiful
