The new album by the Australian duo Pnau, due out in summer 2011 and tentatively titled Soft Universe, is the finest example yet of their epic techno pop. The faster, more uptempo tracks - using their best-known songs to date, Embrace and With You Forever (the latter featuring Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Empire Of The Sun), as the template ' are their most accessible and uplifting ventures yet into the territory of supercharged anthemica.
For Nick, Elton's involvement has been a lifeline. 'He's been incredible at mentoring me through a period of depression,' he reveals. And Pnau have been able to return the favour, working on an album based on the songwriting legend's massive back catalogue, on a project that will amount to a thorough re-examination of his work. It is bound to cause tremendous interest in 2011.
The Truth

When you're always pushin'
Those thorns in my side
Can't bring back light
When someone has stolen the sun
Turn on blind
Held you in Balmain
I gave and I gave and I gave
I thought you were the truth
You say you lost your lover
And that you miss your best friend
Till I found there's none in you
Wings of stone I thought you were the truth
You were my muse
And the world surrounded you I was so into you
You say you lose
Lost is a luxury baby that you can't choose
Said you were confused
Didn't know what to do
You fake and you fake I was fooled
I thought you were the truth
You say you lost your lover
And that you miss your best friend
Till I found there's none in you
Wings of stone I thought you were the truth
You say you lost your lover
And that you miss your best friend
Till I found there's none in you
Wings of stone I thought you were the truth
You know I met you baby I thought that you were the sun
I felt your presence and your pure warmth shone upon
And then the night fell hard and you were the moon
I rode your waves but I fell too soon
I thought you were the truth
You say you lost your lover
And that you miss your best friend
Till I found there's none in you
Wings of stone I thought you were the truth
You say you lost your lover
And that you miss your best friend
Till I found there's none in you
Wings of stone I thought you were the truth
The song 'The Truth' by Pnau is about a person who is disillusioned and disappointed by their partner who they believed was their muse and the truth. The first verse talks about the difficulty in trying when someone is constantly causing pain by pushing thorns in their side. The singer believes that the partner has stolen the sun and that they are blindly trying to make things better. The chorus repeats the phrase "I thought you were the truth" which shows the singer's disbelief that the partner they thought was honest and real turned out to be fake and confusing.
The second verse talks about the partner's claim to have lost their lover and best friend, but upon closer inspection, the singer finds that there is none in them. The partner is compared to having wings of stone, meaning that they are incapable of feeling or showing emotions. The bridge of the song is a reflection on how the singer met the partner and how they believed the partner was like the sun, bringing light into their life. But when the night fell hard, the singer realized that the partner was only like the moon, with their light being reflected off someone else.
Overall, the song is about someone who believed in a person who turned out to be fake and disappointing. The repeated phrase "I thought you were the truth" shows the singer's realization and disappointment that their belief in the partner was misplaced.
