Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Poema Arcanus's song Absinthe are quite intense and obscure, but they are also filled with metaphors that transport the listener to a different world. The first two lines set the tone of the song with their harsh critique of the Catholic Church and its priests, also aligning them with cannibals. The following line, "Lleno de Putas y Bastardos," adds to the criticism by suggesting that those in the church are not living honorable lives.

The rest of the lyrics depict a muse who is misunderstood and can inspire both greatness and destruction. The line "Desdibujado en Aguas Profundas" suggests that the muse is hard to grasp, and its essence may get lost in the vastness of the world's oceans. The muse's green menstrual blood is described as coming in "tibios Oleajes," which means "warm waves." It seems that the muse can bring solace even in the destruction she may cause.

The last line, "Abuso, Absolución, Ausencia," has multiple interpretations. It could be a critique of how the Catholic Church often covers up abuse by priests and then grants them absolution, which implies that they are forgiven of their sins. It could also point to how the muse can cause abuse and destruction, but then she is absent when the consequences of her inspirations arise.
