Circos
Poema Arcanus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Coro:]
El fuego negro quema la ofuscación solar
Llegan los circos de la inmensidad.

Troubler la fète...

Vacío sol, de fiestas te llenarás
Pero la carne profunda se abraza lejana.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Poema Arcanus's song "Circos" present a somewhat cryptic and enigmatic message. The first lines seem to suggest that spring is not a concrete reality anymore, leaving the listener to wonder what event or circumstance has led to this perception. The image of a wild rose dancing towards Niebla (a city in Chile) adds to the dream-like quality of the song. The horizon is described as painting everything in the song with a stony color, while black words laugh at the illusion of hope. The chorus proclaims that the black laugh burns the solar blindness, and that the circuses of the immensity are laughing. This seems to suggest that the vastness of the universe is indifferent to human affairs, and that the laughter of the cosmos is a mocking, cynical one.

The second stanza continues with a reference to a "fatuous calumny", which is an empty insult or false accusation. The singer pledges to let go of this delusion and deny the tongue that drinks from the ethereal sun. The lines "hoy somos bestias que untan hostias en el mal" ("today we are beasts that smear blows on evil") conjures an image of a savage and ruthless world, where violence reigns supreme. This contrasts with the theme of the first stanza, which seemed more gentle and melancholic. The chorus repeats the idea of the black fire burning the solar confusion and announces the arrival of the circuses of immensity. The last line, "vacío sol, de fiestas te llenarás, pero la carne profunda se abraza lejana" ("empty sun, you will fill with celebrations, but the deep flesh embraces itself far away"), seems to suggest that even if people engage in festivities to fill the void left by the absence of concreteness and meaning, they will still feel disconnected from themselves and the world.
