The name, Poets of the Fall, comes from the idea that two opposites form a whole, ie. there isn't one without the other. "Poets" here represent the positive side and "the Fall" the negative. Of course, when you join these two concepts, the "Poets" starts to sound just a tad mischievious as well... depends, of course, on how you perceive "the Fall". You might see it as a beautiful crisp season and the "Poets" are its insightful architects...
Among many others, the trio has received the following awards:
* Best Finnish Act at MTV Europe Music Awards 2006
* Best Finnish Music Video of all time in TV2's Musiikki-TV; two bronze Muuvi Awards and Best Music Video of 2006 at The Voice (video Carnival of Rust)
* Two Emma Awards (the Finnish Grammys) in 2005 - the best debut album and the best new act
* Best Finnish band at the NRJ Radio Awards 2006
* Commercial Radio Stations' Newcomer of the Year Award in 2005

Clevermind
Poets of the Fall Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I thought I'd learned a thing or two
But this is where it's all made new
N' I gotta throw my hands up
I can't go on if I can't stop
Look the leaves are dead
The moments gone, there's no surrender
The words that might've warmed December
'cause it's all inside your head
Like fragments of a dream you remember
So never mind, your clever mind, never mind me
Staring at the ceiling from my bed
I thought I'd earned a chance or few
Thought I'd be paid in due
Time isn't made for waiting
Past isn't worth debating
Look the leaves are dead...
Feeling like a fool again
Just need a new direction
A new beginning , a new beginning
I can't hold back and I can't hold on
It's all about gratification
See me running, see me running
Look the leaves are dead.
In "Clevermind," Poets of the Fall singer Marko Saaresto describes feeling lost and uncertain in life. Through contemplation, he realizes that his past experiences and knowledge might not be enough to navigate what lies ahead, and he must accept this and surrender control to move forward.
The lyrics paint two scenes of introspection: one where the singer is looking ahead, marvelling at the new, unknown path that lies before him, and another where he's lying in bed, unable to escape from thoughts of the past. In both settings, he's confronted with his own limitations and the finiteness of time.
The chorus, "So never mind, your clever mind, never mind me," is a plea to both himself and others to let go of illusions of control and to embrace the temporary nature of life. The final line, "Look the leaves are dead," brings a sense of finality and acceptance, reminding us that everything eventually comes to an end.
Overall, "Clevermind" is a poignant reflection on the complex emotions that come with facing an uncertain future and finding strength in accepting our own limitations.
