The name, Poets of the Fall, comes from the idea that two opposites form a whole, ie. there isn't one without the other. "Poets" here represent the positive side and "the Fall" the negative. Of course, when you join these two concepts, the "Poets" starts to sound just a tad mischievious as well... depends, of course, on how you perceive "the Fall". You might see it as a beautiful crisp season and the "Poets" are its insightful architects...
Among many others, the trio has received the following awards:
* Best Finnish Act at MTV Europe Music Awards 2006
* Best Finnish Music Video of all time in TV2's Musiikki-TV; two bronze Muuvi Awards and Best Music Video of 2006 at The Voice (video Carnival of Rust)
* Two Emma Awards (the Finnish Grammys) in 2005 - the best debut album and the best new act

Desire
Poets of the Fall Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
What never moves, is never still, who has the final word
It holds the world in a single pill, and all life rendered absurd
Kill sweet desire, faith may numb the trial, but can you run all your life
Kill sweet desire, truth will make a liar, you can run but not hide
So run for your life
A false sincerity, a liar and a thief, my pulse and memory, a comfort within grief
What never moves, is never still, who has the final word
It holds the world in a single pill, and all life rendered absurd
Kill sweet desire, faith may numb the trial, but can you run all your life
Kill sweet desire, truth will make a liar, you can run but not hide
Given into this sensation, feel I've run too far
Cannot see beyond emotion, see what the options are
With no faith to trust the notion, I fear I'm losing all control
Kill...
The lyrics of Poets of the Fall's song Desire are thought-provoking and deep. The first stanza talks about the inescapable and overwhelming force of desire. Fatal velocity comes on with a rush, overpowering and giving the final push, which conveys the idea that once in the grip of desire, there's no escaping it. The second half of the stanza highlights the idea that desire is constantly in motion and never still. Questioning who has the final word and how it holds the world in a single pill, rendering all life absurd. The second stanza continues the exploration of desire, describing it as a false sincerity, a liar, and a thief. However, it also speaks of the comfort it brings in times of grief, highlighting the complicated relationship we have with desire. The chorus repeats the phrase "Kill sweet desire," implying a need to escape the hold it has on us, but the line "faith may numb the trial" suggests that blindly following religious or moral beliefs to avoid facing our desires may not be a viable solution. The lyrics seem to be about the struggle we all have with our passions and how difficult it is to escape their pull, even when we know they could lead us to ruin.
