if
Pogodno Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stop, have a time

If I tell you what I'm feeling
Mmm, you're smily optimistic (lub your smile is so tasty ?:) )

If I tell you what I'm feeling
I think that the most important thing
Is respect to the other feelings

If I tell you, what I feel

I think, I don't want, I would like
And though I hope, everybody thinks, nobody wants
Most of us like
Some people hope

You think, you don't want, you would like
And though you hope, everybody thinks, nobody wants
Most of us like
And some people hope

(If I tell you, what I think)

So if I tell you what I'm feeling
You will be shaking
And I will be shaking
And everybody will be Shaking Stevens

So if I tell you what I'm feeling
Without stupid games, just try to be my friend
I turn to the innocence

I think, I don't want, I would like
And though I hope,
Everybody thinks, nobody wants
Most of us like
And some people hope

You think, you don't want
You would like, and though you hope
Everybody thinks, nobody wants
Most of us like, and some people hope

I think, I don't want, I would like
And though I hope, everybody thinks

Nobody wants, most of us like
And some people hope

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pogodno's song "If" express the difficulty of expressing one's true feelings to someone else, and the importance of respecting others' feelings. The first stanza acknowledges the optimistic response that one might receive if they were to share their feelings honestly, but also notes that showing respect to others' feelings is the most important thing. The chorus highlights the difference between what one thinks, wants, and hopes for, versus what most people actually like and hope for. The second stanza suggests that opening up to someone else is scary, but ultimately rewarding, and encourages an attitude of innocence and straightforwardness.

The use of the phrase "shaking Stevens" in the line "And everybody will be Shaking Stevens" is an allusion to the Welsh singer, Shakin' Stevens, known for his energetic stage performances.

Interestingly, Pogodno is known for their use of wordplay and humor in their lyrics, which can be seen in lines such as "Mmm, you're smily optimistic" and "Without stupid games, just try to be my friend."

The band's name, Pogodno, is Polish for "suitable" or "appropriate," which is a nod to their ability to blend different music genres and experiment with diverse styles.

"If" is one of Pogodno's most popular songs and has been covered by multiple artists in various languages.

The song's music video features animated characters and was created by Kijek/Adamski, a Polish artistic collective known for their innovative videos and animations.

Pogodno was formed in 1996 and has released multiple albums over the years, bringing together elements of rock, jazz, and electronic music.

In addition to music, Pogodno has also been involved in various artistic and cultural projects, including creating soundtracks for plays and films, and organizing cultural events in their hometown of Szczecin, Poland.

The band has received several awards and nominations throughout their career, including Best Polish Album at the Fryderyk Awards (Poland's national music awards) for their album "Jedyne Tylkojedno" in 2012.
