After hiring C.C. DeVille, they changed their name to the more edgy ''Poison'' and started working their way up the L.A. Club scene. In 1986 they recorded their debut album ''Look What the Cat Dragged In'', which was made successful by their massive hit ''Talk Dirty to Me'', whose video was played on a constant rotation on MTV. Poison's next album, the fan favorite ''Open Up and Say... Ahh!'' was carried on the shoulders of the chart topping ballad ''Every Rose Has Its Thorn'', written by Bret Michaels about his girlfriend cheating on him with Quiet Riot frontman Kevin DuBrow. Poison's third album, Flesh & Blood, showed Poison's more mainstream side. After Flesh & Blood came out, Poison started going downhill. C.C. DeVille was in a constant drug binge and couldn't be found. When Poison was slated to play Unskinny Bop for the MTV Movie Awards, C.C. forgot what song to play and ripped into Talk Dirty To Me on live television. He was fired on the spot.
Guitarist Ritchie Kotzen was brought in to record the album Native Tongue, which showed a new creative turn for the band. Ritchie was a good guitarist, but was thrown out of the band for sleeping with drummer Rikki Rocketts fiance. Poison then brought in Blues Saraceno as guitarist, with whom they recorded ''Crack A Smile...And More!'', one of Poison's lost gems.
After years of disconnection, C.C. DeVille came back to Poison for a full reunion. They have since toured with many acts, including KISS. They are currently planning a summer tour with fellow hair metal elite Cinderella and have just released a new 20th anniversary greatest hits cd.
In the 2007 game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, the track "Talk Dirty to Me" is featured.

(Do you like that?)
Sh!t piled up to your knees
Her old man thinks you're a social disease
Dog pissed on the floor left a stain
Your old lady's naked driving you insane
She stopped taking the pill
You've got your problems, boy so damn great
Can't find a good wife can't find a good job
Can't find the keys to my car
I lost my dog I lost my brain
I lost my girl to a big movie star (whatever)
Now I'm standing at the crossroads trying to find my way home
But the truth is baby I'm so
Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely
Sometimes I'd just
[Chorus]
Like to jump in and get me some funky
When push comes to shove
You talk too much and way too rough
How 'bout we both shut up and let's make love
I'm home hangin', the walls bangin'
It's the neighbor next door
They're talking trashy or doing the nasty
They keep me up until four
So they keep on going more and more
I hear and said "Lord, I'm half crazy"
I gotta get me some of that
In and out, and in and out,and in and out
[Chorus]
When the clothes start flying
There's no denying
Gonna get some funky
Good, good funky
Your blood starts pumpin'
Baby start somethin'
Here oh right here, right here baby
Oh give me a little bit of loving
It's all so simple
I'll bring the ripple
What's your state of mind?
How 'bout we drink, get drunk
Fall down into a big flesh pie
[Chorus]
It would sound like this
Stop!
The song "Shut Up" by Poison is a blend of rock and funk music that features tongue-in-cheek lyrics about a man's lousy life and his longing for some passionate love. The song starts with the line "Sh!t piled up to your knees," which sets the tone for the rest of the song. The lyrics detail a series of unfortunate events that transpire in the singer's life, including his wife leaving him, his dog going missing, and his job being non-existent. Notably, most of the singer's problems stem from his unhealthy relationship with his significant other, who "left you sued you for a mil."
The chorus of the song is where the singer's wants and needs become apparent. His craving for physical intimacy is evident when he says, "Sometimes I'd just like to jump in and get me some funky." The song suggests that the problems in the singer's life could be solved by having a sexual encounter instead of talking through them. The line, "You talk too much and way too rough, how 'bout we both shut up and let's make love" highlights that point. The singer is aware that this will not solve all of his problems, but he will "get some funky."
