In addition to being a songwriter and recording artist, Poison Ivory is a true performance artist—an illustrator and painter. She presents a gaudy glam style that is inspired by an array of unique and cult- appreciated personalities.
Her musical tastes are quite diverse. Poison Ivory, whose birth name is Kristina, grew up in Los Angeles and as a kid at Mount Zion, a Black Baptist Church located in the city’s Inglewood area. Later her father became a pastor who presided over homeless ministries. He was also a promotions and publicity executive inside the record industry doing promotion and publicity for such artist as The Temptations, WAR, Bill Withers, and The Mama’s & The Papas; not to mention many Gospel greats. So, it is no surprise that Ivory’s musical influences range from classic rockers such as Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, and the Rolling Stones, to Contemporary Gospel acts like the Kurt Carr Singers and the Winans, to R&B divas Anita Baker and Teena Marie. Ivory has been singing since the age of 5, and was a member of a young Gospel group, called “All God’s Children.” The group once performed in front of former President Bill Clinton, Barbara Streisand, and in a high profile NFL-Fox TV Commercial. “It was awesome experience,” Ivory recalls. “I got my taste of what it was like to perform in front of an audience, and knew it was something I was born to do.”

Poison Ivory Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Those one you've known him blues
And like a pair of worn out shoes
Your heart goes down that road again
Cause one you've known him
Ohh once you've known him
Ohh once you've known him
woahh once you've known him
You've got the blues
Yeah you got the blues
my friend, you got the blues
yeah, you got the blues my friend
Behind a history and booze
You got the once you've know him blues
yeah, and you keep paying all your dues baby
You act the way you used to be
Your endless days and sleepless night
Once you've known him
woah once you've known him
oh once you've known him
oh once you've known him
You got the blues
Yeah, you got the blues my friend
You got the blues
Yeah, you got the blues my friend
Once you've known him
oh, once you've known him
You got the blues
Yeah, you got the blues my friend
You got the blues
Yeah, you got the blues my friend
The lyrics of Poison Ivory's "The Blues" talk about the struggles of moving on from a past relationship. The song expresses the feeling of being stuck in a constant cycle of heartbreak, and how memories of the past relationship keep coming back like a pair of worn-out shoes. The repeated line "once you've known him" emphasizes the difficulty of letting go of a partner that has left a deep impact on one's life.
The chorus of the song focuses on the idea that no matter how much time has passed, memories of the past relationship continue to affect the individual's life. The phrase "you got the blues" is repeated four times, highlighting the sense of melancholy and sadness that accompanies the memories and the constant reminder of the past.
The verses delve deeper into the emotions of the individual, describing a sense of being trapped in their old ways and the familiar feeling of despair that results from heartbreak. The lyrics speak about the endless days and sleepless nights, further emphasizing the toll that heartbreak can take. The lines "behind a history and booze" suggest that the person has turned to alcohol to numb the pain of the memories of the past relationship.
Overall, "The Blues" is a poignant song that captures the feeling of being stuck in the past and unable to move on. It reflects the struggles of heartbreak and the lingering memories that can make it difficult to let go.
