The band was formed by Olson and Leaneagh following their involvement in the soft rock supergroup Gayngs. Their debut album, Give You the Ghost, was released on February 14,2012, and received praise from critics; including Grammy winner band Bon Iver's founder Justin Vernon, who told Rolling Stone: "They're the best band I've ever heard." Four singles were released from the album including, "Dark Star", which peaked at no. 2 on BEL (Vl) [Ultratip].
The band released their second album, Shulamith on October 18,2013, and it reached a peak position at no. 47 on BEL (VI) just like their debut. It also charted at no. 1 on US Heatseekers Albums. In April 2013 they released the single "Tiff (feat. Justin Vernon)", followed by second single "Chain My Name" in October, 2013.
Scrobbling note: does not tend to scrobble with or without the inclusion of the cedilla, which is how the band is (accurately) represented on Spotify.
Lay Your Cards Out
Poliça Lyrics

In these little moments, lay your cards out, I am waiting
By the waterside summer wading in sunder, girl get your head right
By the waterside, summer wading, get your head right
In these little moments, get your cards out, I am waiting
In these little moments, get your cards out, I am waiting
By the waterside summer wading in sunder, girl get your head right
In these little moments, lay your cards out, I am waiting
In these little moments, lay your cards out, I am waiting
By the waterside summer wading in sunder, get your head right
By the waterside summer wading in sunder, girl get your head right
Get your head right
Girl, hm get your head right I'm waiting
Girl, get your head right, get your head right
Girl, get your head right, get your head right
Girl, get your head right, I am waiting
The lyrics of Poliça's song Lay Your Cards Out seem to be an invitation to someone to open up and reveal themselves. The first verse repeats the phrase "in these little moments," encouraging the person to not wait any longer and lay their cards out (show their true self). The second verse changes the phrase to "get your cards out," which could be interpreted as a demand to the person to show their true self. The chorus repeats both phrases, emphasizing the importance of not wasting any more time and getting to know each other on a deeper level.
The mention of the waterside and summer wading could also symbolize a moment of clarity or purification, where both people can cleanse themselves of any past baggage or doubts and approach the situation with a clear head. The repetition of "get your head right" could be seen as a reminder to the person to not let any negative thoughts or emotions cloud their judgment or their ability to connect with the other.
Overall, the lyrics of Lay Your Cards Out seem to be a call for vulnerability and honesty in a relationship or connection with another person, and for both parties to approach the situation with an open and clear head.

We used to blast this song heavy at MAC Cosmetics on South Beach! I loved that about work, music on full blast and discovering new artists everyday. I still have this in my rotation in 2022 ❤️
@Ulfruba
This band is simply so underrated! I find it utterly unfair, they got style in music, it visual art, in lyrics, joy and anger, all the way! Those people really disserves a place in pophistory!

She is incredible live. They have so much stage presence. The bass player is epic, the drummers are epic. One of the best shows I went to in all of 2012.
