The band was formed by Olson and Leaneagh following their involvement in the soft rock supergroup Gayngs. Their debut album, Give You the Ghost, was released on February 14,2012, and received praise from critics; including Grammy winner band Bon Iver's founder Justin Vernon, who told Rolling Stone: "They're the best band I've ever heard." Four singles were released from the album including, "Dark Star", which peaked at no. 2 on BEL (Vl) [Ultratip].
The band released their second album, Shulamith on October 18,2013, and it reached a peak position at no. 47 on BEL (VI) just like their debut. It also charted at no. 1 on US Heatseekers Albums. In April 2013 they released the single "Tiff (feat. Justin Vernon)", followed by second single "Chain My Name" in October, 2013.
Scrobbling note: does not tend to scrobble with or without the inclusion of the cedilla, which is how the band is (accurately) represented on Spotify.
Leading To Death
Poliça Lyrics

In the hours leading up to your death
I won't weep, I won't weep
In the days, in the nights
In the hours leading up to your death
I won't weep, I won't weep
In the hours leading up to your death
I won't weep, I won't weep
In the days, in the nights
In the hours leading up to your death
I dream of you, oh my strangler
I dream of you, oh my
I dream of you, oh my strangler
I dream of you, oh my
In the days, in the nights
In the hours leading up to your death
I won't weep, I won't weep
In the days, in the nights
In the hours leading up to your death
I won't weep, I won't weep
In the days, in the nights
In the hours leading up to your death
I won't weep, I won't weep
I dream of you, oh my strangler
I dream of you, oh my
I dream of you, oh my strangler
I dream of you, oh my
Oh my
The lyrics to Poliça's song "Leading To Death" convey a sense of detachment and numbness in the face of impending loss. The repetition of the phrase "In the days, in the nights, in the hours leading up to your death," creates a sense of inevitability and finality. The singer declares that they will not weep during this time, perhaps as a way of coping with the overwhelming emotions that come with the loss of a loved one.
The second half of the song introduces the theme of violence, with the repeated phrase "I dream of you, oh my strangler." This line creates a stark contrast to the earlier verses, which portrayed a sense of resignation and acceptance. The dream sequence suggests that the singer may not be entirely at peace with the situation, and is struggling to come to terms with the violent nature of the loss.
Overall, "Leading To Death" is a haunting and introspective song that explores the complex emotions of grief and loss. The lyrics are open to interpretation, but they seem to suggest a mixture of sadness, detachment, and even anger in the face of death and violence.
