Mrs. Robinson
Pomplamoose Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
Hey, hey, hey

We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files
We'd like to help you learn to help yourself
Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes
Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home

And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know
God help you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
Hey, hey, hey

Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes
It's a little secret, just the Robinsons' affair
Most of all, you've got to hide it from the kids

Coo, coo, ca-choo, Mrs Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
Hey, hey, hey

Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon
Going to the candidates debate
Laugh about it shout about when you got to choose
Every way you look at it you loose

Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio
A nation turns it's lonely eyes to you
What's that you say Mrs. Robinson

Joltin' Joe has left and gone away
Hey, hey, hey

Overall Meaning

The chorus of Pomplamoose’s song Mrs. Robinson is a tribute to the titular character from the 1967 film The Graduate. The lines “And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson / Jesus loves you more than you will know / God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson / Heaven holds a place for those who pray” describe the character’s sense of disillusionment with her life and her search for a sense of purpose. She is a woman who is feeling trapped in her role as a wife and mother, and she does not know how to escape from the stifling conformity of her life. The song suggests that she is searching for some kind of spiritual guidance, and that she is hoping to find some sort of meaning in her existence.

The verses of the song are directed at Mrs. Robinson, with the singers expressing a desire to learn more about her, and to help her find a way out of her life. The lines “We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files / We'd like to help you learn to help yourself / Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes / Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home” suggest that the singers are sympathetic to Mrs. Robinson’s plight, and that they are willing to lend a helping hand.

The song is full of references to the film The Graduate, as well as to other cultural icons of the time. The final verse, which includes the lines “Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio / A nation turns its lonely eyes to you / What's that you say Mrs. Robinson / Joltin' Joe has left and gone away,” is a reference to the baseball player Joe Dimaggio, who was a hero to many Americans in the 1950s and 60s.

Thanks, Guys. My dad, who had a stroke two years ago, stil can't talk properly. Can't remember the words... or somethink like that. And he walks slowly and painfully. He just heard this coming from my room, walked all the way from his room to mine and sang the whole song, while crying and laughing. You just made his day happier. And mine too. :)

It's quite the revelation isn't it? Enjoy the dive into their catalog, originals and covers are all brilliant.

Pomplamoose is the anecdote to any hater out there.  They are brilliant musically, charismatic, honest, feel their music deeply, don't take themselves seriously except for their production values -- I hope they become Omni-popular; they are pioneers.

@ThatChannel.com I could take a guess at what you're trying to say, but I'm in no mood for conspiracy theories today. Will rather watch the anecdote once more!

Esteban Steve Rincon

Pioneers of what? They mostly do covers...just literally hundreds of other bands.

I wanna be your friend already

Couldn't agree more Dale. Especially - "don't take themselves seriously except for their production value." They don't always cut up while the camera is rolling but when they do I love it. I tried to find the video where, at the end, the set gets bumped into and part of it falls so I could show that to my wife (it was hilarious)... But Pomplamoose has created so many videos that I couldn't find it again!
