I've been composing since I picked up a 4-track sequencer for my Commodore 64 back in the day lol. I've tried out probably a dozen DAWs including Cubase and Logic, the two most common ones you see, and I keep coming back to my (legal!) copy of FLStudio. I love the workflow. I compose for video games, pop music, and orchestral stuff. It does everything very well and the sequencer is top notch.

Like to see you try this with Hollywood Choirs. You could potentially reverse engineer the actual original lyrics. Maybe throw in those shouts from Olympus Elements. That and Riddle of Steel from Conan Soundtrack.

Try opening 2 instances of Stormchoir: one for each track. Cut and paste every other fast note onto the second track. That really helped me when dealing with Hollywood Choir which would actually skip a short note and not play it if it was paired with a second short note immediately before it.

I always have this question in mind and wanted to ask you. When it comes to your orchestral style, you seems to approach that epic style of orchestra. You rely on percussion just like Hans Zimmer, Ramin Djawadi and Brian Tyler. But I was thinking haven't you thought of doing the classical/traditional style, or should I say the "symphonic" style. Just like the work of John Williams, Alan Menken and Patrick Doyle, where you can hear the Woodwind section takes a melodic lead, then switching to the String section for a more emotional melodic lines and hitting the Brass to get that majestic sound. Perhaps trying to do Waltz style of music as well. I'm sure you got my point.

While I love John Williams's work, that's a style I'm not very interested in, at the moment.

It's interesting how you have had a way more positive impression of SC2 than me, I was super excited about it when I got it, but I never could get it to sound the way I wanted, and also the fact that they removed the random syllable, the sample offset
and a lot of other key functions that they had in Storm Choirs has made this library pretty much completely untouched for me since I bought it. Could be just me not being good enough to make it sound good though, might have to pick it up again at some point. Great review Alex!

I was initially taken aback by SC2's engine and interface, but once I started to work on this demo, I started noticing all the good in it and changed my mind quite a bit.
It's still true that the library feels old when you use it though, compared to newer ones.

What kind of PC do you have? And what specs do you find important for running these huge project files without any CPU overloads and popping! This project is so huge and kontakt is so heavy on my device!

I have a solution for you. download the free Embertone Arcana which qualifies you for crossgrade discount at NI, the best when there is summer sales or black friday or something. Then Kontakt gets even cheaper. (read through this discussion https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/9197-full-kontakt-6-for-as-little-as-12450/ )

it sounds great your mix but not a fan when solo, especially with fast staccato. I feel like i'm hearing too much of rolling R's. I would rather go on Oceania by Performance Samples or Lacrimosa by 8dio if i want a huge choir (for trailer/hybrid stuff).

Yeah, i think it depends of the context of your music, i get good results with Lacrimosa but just as you, Ark1 is my favorite right now.
Not a big fan too, i find 8dio librairies hard to manipulate and i get better results with other libraries. (Doesnt mean it's bad when you listen to Michal Cielecki and Troels Folmann demos for 8dio, that's insane). Anyway, i think you can make nice things with Oceania, i'm looking forward to that ! :)

I'm not a huuuuge fan of 8Dio, so haven't tried Lacrimosa, but I've been wanting to try Oceania for quite a while now instead. :D
My absolute favorite is still Metropolis Ark 1 to be honest, but out of all the ones I tried, SC2 is up there in terms of power. It's just a bit uncomfortable to use due to its age in comparison with newer libraries such as Ark 1.

Anyone here who have some experience with Insolidus? If I compare it with Lacrimosa I don't think it is such a powerful sounding choir library. Maybe because I can't find a demo on the 8dio page with short articulations from insolidus... it would be very interesting to here some staccatos or something like that from this library. Can somebody help me?

I might be wrong, but as far as I know, their aim with Insolidus wasn't to create a powerful choir but rather a very dynamic and expressive one, for latin chants and things of such.
I think Lacrimosa, StormChoir 2 and Metropolis Ark 1 are more "powerful" than Insolidus.
But none is as dynamic as that one when it comes to low levels of power I think.

No wonder you need ton of disk space to play with multimedia. :)
You can compress libraries so they take less space but the more you compress the more CPU it will need to decompress. There's always a compromise to make and most of serious people don't want to compromise on smooth playback.

this library is no doubt better than what I have in my software but compare this to Lacrimosa you mentioned or insolidus from 8Dio. To me these are the most powerful I ever heard. Too expensive to me but definitely on my wish list for when I have the cash.
Being honest to me that Storm Choir does not sound excellent yet is decent( and better than what I have again).

We have to take into account that SC2 was released in 2014, while Lacrimosa and Insolidus are less than a year old. It makes sense they might sound a bit better, and it's a good idea, if you have the money for it, to get those.
However, I think SC2 still sounds powerful enough to be considered among those, and because of its age it also costs quite less.
If only the engine was a bit more modern and easier to use, I'd use it all the time along with Metropolis Ark 1.
Really love the sound it can have (if tweaked correctly).
