Around the sun
Poolside Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Another year around the sun
Guess I've just been having fun
Just another year around the sun
Making it through

Laying back at the end of the day
Got nobody to tell, I'm okay
Forgot the rules of the games we play, but that's fine
People say that I lost my mind
I've got nothing to lose, and nothing to find
They might say I'm the losing kind but that's fine

Another year around the sun
Guess I've just been having fun
Just another year around the sun
Making it through

Another year around the sun
Guess I've just been having fun
Just another year around the sun
Making it through

Make it, make it, make it through
Make it, make it, make it through
Make it, make it, make it through

Another year around the sun
Guess I've just been having fun
Just another year around the sun
Making it through

Another year around the sun
Guess I've just been having fun
Just another year around the sun
Making it through

Oh yeah we'll make it through
Oh yeah we'll make it through

Oh yeah we'll make it through

Oh yeah we'll make it through
Yeah we'll make it through

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Poolside's song "Around the Sun" convey a sense of contentment with the passage of time. The repetition of "Another year around the sun, guess I've just been having fun" implies that the passage of time is not a concern for the singer, as they are enjoying life no matter how many years go by. The line "Laying back at the end of the day, got nobody to tell, I'm okay" suggests a sense of independence and self-reliance -- the singer doesn't need anyone to confirm that their choices and lifestyle are acceptable.

The chorus of "Just another year around the sun, making it through" has a hopeful tone, suggesting that the singer is not only content with the passing of time, but also confident in their ability to navigate whatever comes their way. The repetition of "make it through" at the end reinforces that feeling of resilience and determination.

Overall, "Around the Sun" is a feel-good, optimistic song about taking life in stride and enjoying the ride, no matter what the years may bring.

This song and the images that come with it have an old-school vibe from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I was born in the 1970s, so this takes me back to my childhood years in the 70s, my teenage years in the 80s, and my early 20s in the 90s, growing up in California by the beach. It makes me feel nostalgic and lucky to have been born back then.

I've listened to this song at least 100 times the past couple of years. The old-skool warm vibe is just incredible, it's such a feelgood tune with just a sprinkle of nostalgia. Thank so much for making this available to the world.

@@niktsol indeed, I honestly think that is the trigger for why folks like us enjoy it. Nostalgia is so sweet. And, this smoov jam takes us there.. born In 81.. peace be the journey 2 you, we the last of the "American golden days" .. bikes in the street, forts in the woods, street lights turning on at dawn. Neighbors looking out for each other, pool parties, arcade, pizza parlor, 3 way calls, maps, beepers, long late night phone talks, etc, etc, etc.. take care..
