Some Weird Sin
Pop (Iggy) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, I never got my license to live
They won't give it up
So I stand at the world's edge

I'm trying to break in
Oh, I know it's not for me
And the sight of it all
Makes me sad and ill
That's when I want some weird sin

Things get too straight
I can't bear it
I feel stuck, stuck on a pin

I'm trying to break in
Oh, I know it's not for me
But the sight of it all
Makes me sad and ill
That's when I want
Some weird sin, that's when I want
Some weird sin, just to relax with

Yeah, some dumb, weird sin, for a while anyway
With my head on the ledge
That's what you get out on the edge
Some weird sin

Things get too straight
I can't bear it
I feel stuck, stuck on a pin

I'm trying to break in
Oh, I know it's not for me
But the sight of it all
Makes me sad and ill
That's when I want
Some weird sin, that's when I want
Some weird sin, just to relax with

Yes, some dumb weird sin, for a while anyway
With my head out on the ledge
That's what you get out on the edge
Some weird sin

Overall Meaning

In Pop (Iggy)'s song Some Weird Sin, the lyrics suggest an existential yearning for something outside of normalcy and routine. The repetition of "I'm trying to break in" points to a frustration with societal constraints and the limitations that come with living within the bounds of conventionality. This feeling of being stuck comes to a head when "things get too straight, I can't bear it," and the singer desires "some weird sin" as a release from the monotony and suffocation of everyday life.

The lyrics also touch on the feeling of being on the edge, both literally and figuratively. Standing "at the world's edge" and "with my head on the ledge" suggest a desire to escape from the mundane realities of life, to reach for something more. The repetition of the phrase "that's what you get out on the edge" underscores this desire, as if suggesting that only by pushing the limits can one truly experience life in all its weirdness and wonder.

Classic Iggy at his best,and much praises to the late Great DAVID BOWIE for creating Two great classic Albums for him..The IDIOT and LUST FOR LIFE!!!

And Blah Blah Blah.

@thepublichousebrandcom

With him. Not For him

@peteormond3565

All due respect to Bowie and Iggy acknowledges Bowie helping to save his career at that time but Bowie did solely create those albums though he did help to write some of the songs.

@peteormond3565

...did not solely...

@blueshorecreative3146

@@peteormond3565 Agreed. David co-produced, played piano, did some back-up vocals, and it added to the songs. But Iggy has always been an artist in himself. Revolutionary. Like David. David just recognised that. He helped a friend get recognised because he deserved to be recognised by the world.
