Portugal. The Man centered on frontman John Gourley’s abstract musical approach and corresponding upbringing. He was raised in a sort of technological isolation: his log cabin home in the winter wasteland of the fringes of Wasilla, Alaska was powered by a generator and had no telephone. Both of his parents helped completely immerse him in the unique lifestyle that comes with a land of seasonal darkness and perpetual cold with their jobs as dog sled mushers. Gourley’s innate curiosity and individual spirit combined with a fascination with science fiction and experiences of homelessness create a distinctly transcendent sound that is always open to interpretation and change.

On June 22, 2007 they released their second full length, Church Mouth. The band then set out on a full US tour with support from The Photo Atlas, Play Radio Play, Tera Melos, and The Only Children. The album's title was inspired by an original 1969 Woodstock music festival ticket stub owned by Gourley's father. It led Gourley to a realization that almost 50 years later, music has the same mission as then – "to comment on societal and political unease." "We worked with so many rad people on this album, but ended up with just the four of us in a basement at 4 a.m. trying to say something that mattered," said Gourley. "Trying to write music that would help people feel they're not alone, even if they're angry or feeling lost." Woodstock was released on June 16, 2017. John Gourley and Zoe Manville married on New Year's Eve 2017.

Flow about and sink in little bitty bits
Where I know, I know myself where floors were found
Shores were shaping doors
Stretch for miles and mile and miles
I know, I know myself
And everyone hidden from the sun
Where I know, I know myself
And if you love everybody
Then I wonder, shall you be saved?
And I'm thinking, when will we be found?
I need you, sunshine this rains a pourin'
Please ,please, please, please, please
Cry down and out film reflecting that reflection
Send me a car, I know these feet can't take it no more
I'll take my time, I don't worry that old man no more
He's a worry for lights that splash 'bout my eyes running around
Shy, naked and whispering found but listening
"Share With Me The Sun" by Portugal. The Man is a song about sharing the beauty and positivity in life with others. The lyrics encourage the listener to appreciate and enjoy the simple pleasures that life brings, such as the warmth of the sun. The singer reminds the listener that they are not alone in this world, and that there is no need to feel isolated or disconnected. The outside world is available to be explored and embraced.
The first verse suggests that we sometimes forget that we have the sun to share. The sun is a symbol for joy, hope, and positivity, and we all have access to it. The doors lead us outside, and as we step out, we are reminded of our connection to the world around us. The chorus further emphasizes the importance of sharing the sun, and reminds the listener that they are not the only ones who need it.
The second verse reflects on the limitations and challenges we face in our lives, but at the same time acknowledges the need for play and leisure. The final lines of the song "In the end, time may take me" suggest that we must make the most of the time we have and enjoy the sun while it's shining.
Overall, "Share With Me The Sun" is a reminder to appreciate the beauties of life and to not take them for granted. We should share our experiences and joy with others, as we are all connected and we all need positivity in our lives.

If you look real high you just might find
Sitting in the stars, glistening, glistening
Waiting for the band to come
Just waiting for that man to come
Oh, I wonder
Slip on down from that sun to climb
Down to earth and down to things like time
Because we are all, we are all just lovers
Born of earth and light like all these others
If you're talking to the moon
The moon might sing about the universe
Shouting out "I don't need, I don't need time"
I breathe in time
Where, where are we now?
Where, where are we now?
Slip on down from that sun to climb
Down to earth and down to things like time
Because we are all, we are all just lovers
Born of earth and light like all these others
If you're looking for the river just find the mouth
It's grinding like gnashing teeth foaming out, foaming out
Mixing up the hell to come
Just mixing up the hell to come
And it's fixing up to swallow me whole
It's fixing up to swallow me whole
It's fixing up to swallow my soul
Fixing up to swallow me whole
Slip on down from that sun to climb
Down to earth and down to things like time
Because we are all, we are all just lovers
Born of earth and light like all these others
Where, where are we now?
Where, where are we now?
Where, where are we now?
Where, where are we now?
