Stay
Post Malone Lyrics
It's true
That all that you know is all that you are
You said that it's all that you want and more
Fuck off and pour another drink
And tell me what you think
You know that I'm too drunk to talk right now
You put your cigarette out on my face
So beautiful, please, woman
Don't break your back for me
Tell me that it's all okay (tell me that it's all okay)
I've been waitin' on this all damn day (waitin' on this all damn day)
Call me in the mornin', tell me how last night went
I'm here, but don't count on me to
Stay a little longer if you convince me
And tell me all the things that you have against me
Every time we make-up, the truth is fadin'
Everybody's blind when the view's amazin'
Damn, who are we right now?
Can we have a little conversation?
Figure it out with no intoxication
We carry on, what is our motivation?
We're never wrong, how the hell we gonna make it?
Maybe we're used to this
Tell me, what are we to do?
It's like we only play to lose
Chasin' pain with an excuse
I love that shit and so do you
But don't break your back for me
I'll put you out of your misery
Tell me that it's all okay (tell me that it's all okay)
I've been waitin' on this all damn day (waitin' on this all damn day)
Call me in the mornin', tell me how last night went
I'm here, but don't count on me to stay
Tell me that it's all okay (tell me that it's all okay)
I've been waitin' on this all damn day (waitin' on this all damn day)
Call me in the mornin', tell me how last night went
I'm here, but don't count on me to stay

“Stay” was the fourth song to be debuted from Post Malone’s sophomore album, beerbongs & bentleys. The song features a much slower tempo than the three previous singles, marking the first song that has “push[ed] the genre” on his sophomore album.
The song is about Post’s struggle to maintain a relationship with a girl. It’s possible Post wrote this song during the short time that he and his girlfriend, Ashlen, had separated.

You know that moment when you're ready to let someone go because you know it isnt going to work out and then you stumble across pictures when everything was okay and you two were good and tell yourself one more day......
Just one more day......
Yeah same.

Literally though.. I used to listen to this song years ago taking the ferry to Peaks Island in Portland Maine to go to work on an island restaurant like 1-2 months off of heroin after moving there to get sober after rehab... listening to this song again brings back so many beautiful memories of that time in my life.

Me and my boyfriend used to lay in bed and listen to this song and just talk about everything. He passed away in 2018 4 months after our daughter was born, and I’ve always thought of this as our song. Even had them play it at his funeral. Hurts to listen to this now, but it’ll always be such a special song to me. I always find myself coming back to it. My daughter is 4 now, and she’s the very best thing in the world. I’m so thankful he gave me my daughter. Maybe in our next life things will be different
