Ancient History
Prairie Oyster Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Til I've heard every word you've got to say,
Go ahead and take your time If you've got something on your mind
But it won't change the way I feel anyway
That's ancient history to me now
Something we don't have to talk about
You know I love you anyhow
There's a tale you've got to tell,
How you stumbled and then you fell
But I guess I knew that all along,
And, my love, there's times when we
Are weaker than we'd like to be,
And I could tell some stories of my own
CHORUS
The Prairie Oyster's song Ancient History is about two individuals in a relationship who have overcome obstacles and made it through the rough patches. The song talks about how the past is in the past and it's no longer important to dwell on what happened because they have moved on from it. The lyrics suggest that the two partners in the relationship can have open conversations about their past but it won't change the way they feel about each other. Essentially, the message of the song is that the present is more important than the past and it's crucial to focus on the present to maintain a healthy and loving relationship.
Through the lyrics, the band highlights the importance of communication in a relationship. The fact that the couple can have conversations about their past and move on from it shows that they have a strong foundation built on trust and understanding. The song celebrates the power of love to triumph over challenges and difficulties. It also acknowledges that individuals are not perfect and can make mistakes, but as long as they learn from them and move forward positively, nothing can tear them apart.
