If I told you my love, had no end
Oh, would you call me a liar
If I told you my love, had no beginning
No one was hiding
What we were trying to find
Was always there
We were just not aware
To step into the salty sea
Let the sand stick to our toes
Until we fall asleep
Oh, would you call me a liar
Oh, would you call me a liar
Oh, would you call me a liar
Oh, would you call me a liar
Oh, can you hold my fire, for me
Oh, can you hold my fire, for me
Oh, can you hold my fire, for me
Oh, can you hold my fire
The lyrics of Prateek Kuhad's "Fire" celebrate the kind of love that surpasses time and has no beginning or end. The singer is asking if they would be perceived as a liar if they claimed that their love for someone was infinite. The question is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the insecurity that often comes with romantic relationships. The singer seems to be seeking validation from their partner, hoping that their feelings will be reciprocated.
The second half of the song shifts focus to the shared experience of the couple. They are depicted as being at the beach, enjoying each other's company and the simple pleasures of their surroundings. The experience is described in sensory detail, with the listener invited to imagine the sensation of sand sticking to one's toes. The singer's vulnerability is amplified by the final lines of the song, where they ask their partner to "hold their fire" - a request that feels both romantic and desperate.
Overall, "Fire" is a poignant reflection on love that explores the complexities of human relationships. It's a love letter to a partner that captures the uncertainty and excitement that comes with falling in love.
