The Wedding March
Prefab Sprout Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's called the wedding march
The grace that it takes, the grace you deserve,
Require a lighter touch
I know you love dancing.
Oh, I know that you love dancing so much
I know you love dancing.
Musics a wild thing with mischief to prove
I cant adjust to the way that you move
Musics a wild thing whatever the groove
Some music isn't for dancing
One dance whose steps I never could learn
Its called the wedding march
The grace that it takes, the balance and poise,
I still find a mystery
I know you love dancing.
So, I know that you'd hate dancing with me
I know you love dancing.
So, I know that you'd hate dancing with me
The lyrics of "The Wedding March" by Prefab Sprout appear to be about a couple who love dancing, but the singer is unable to perform the traditional wedding march dance as it requires a certain level of grace and lightness that he lacks. The song seems to have a bittersweet tone, as the singer acknowledges that his partner loves dancing so much and he wishes he could dance with her, but he knows that he does not have the skills required to do so. He believes that music is a wild and unpredictable thing, and not all music is meant for dancing, further emphasizing his inability to perform the wedding march.
The song also seems to be about the importance of balance and poise in dancing. The singer recognizes that the wedding march requires a certain degree of grace and balance, and he considers it a mystery that he is unable to master the steps. The use of the word "mystery" could be interpreted as a metaphor for the complexities of a relationship, as some aspects of it may be difficult to understand and require a delicate touch.
Overall, "The Wedding March" is a poignant reflection on the inability to connect with a partner's passions and interests. The singer's lack of dancing ability serves as a metaphor for the larger theme of the song, which is the difficulty of finding balance and harmony in a relationship.

one of the most underrated groups ever. prefab sprout deserved far more success than they ever received. when talking about music and i mention prefab sprout most people say who are they.?. some people might not know their name but they do know their hits such as king of rock and roll or cars and girls and when love breaks down. the wedding march is such a simple song that paddy beautifully brings to life as only sprout can.
