Falling Down
Pregnant Whale Pain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stimulate all the senses that scare you away
In the air the fear that has never really gone away

Now it has blocked your door, now I can't go in
I've seen its face before, ugly and evil and
Pain all over your face
Shame that you can't escape, sickness in your head
I see that your feeling better today
It's all I want but I don't dare to say
What did I climb for yesterday?

Fingertips, I asked and you said it hurts
Just a little bit, the worst fire is the one that know how to burn in you

Now it has blocked your door, now I can't go in
I've seen its face before, ugly and evil and
Pain all over your face
Shame that you can't escape, sickness in your head

I see that your feeling better today
It's all I want but I don't dare to say
What did I climb for yesterday

If I'm falling down today

I see that your feeling better today
It's all I want but I don't dare to say
What did I climb for yesterday

If I'm falling down today

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Pregnant Whale Pain's song Falling Down seem to be a reflection on the experience of trying to help someone who is struggling with mental illness, addiction, or some other kind of debilitating condition. The opening lines, "Stimulate all the senses that scare you away, In the air the fear that has never really gone away" suggest that the singer is trying to encourage the person they are speaking to embrace the uncomfortable and painful aspects of their situation, in order to confront and overcome them.

However, the next lines reveal that the situation is more complicated, as "Now it has blocked your door, now I can't go in, I've seen its face before, ugly and evil and, Pain all over your face, Shame that you can't escape, sickness in your head" imply that the person they are trying to help is resistant to change, perhaps due to the overwhelming grip of their condition. The repetition of "ugly and evil" suggests that the problem is something internal, something that the person is struggling to face or acknowledge.

The lyrics continue to waver between hope and despair, with lines like "I see that your feeling better today, It's all I want but I don't dare to say, What did I climb for yesterday?" suggesting that the singer is torn between wanting to celebrate progress and feeling discouraged by the ongoing struggle. The final lines, "If I'm falling down today, I see that your feeling better today, It's all I want but I don't dare to say, What did I climb for yesterday" suggest that the singer is wrestling with a sense of purposelessness or futility, wondering why they bother trying to help if they themselves are struggling.

THIS is the band I've been looking for...

@BasherofWorlds

After listening to this song numerous times, I can safely say this is my favorite song off the album. The polyrhythms, the vocal power, it's all top notch. And that solo... Is that a distortion effect put on the vocalist as he screams? If so, fucking bravo. I wish the best of luck to you guys; your music is amazing, and I will continue to recommend you to all of my friends. :)
