Enemy
Prema Lyrics

what I once knew into the enemy. Sence of love smashed by you.
I try to keep control. My mind runs wild. Unsatisfied by this
transformation, no longer know my true position. Steals my purity
and my sanity. Keeps me entangled in illusion and wrath. Sinful
enemy. I want it back, the relationship we once had. Lust......
Caitanya.
Prema's song "Enemy" is a reflection on how intense emotions can transform an individual's perception of themselves and the world. The lyrics convey a sense of loss and confusion, as the singer struggles to come to terms with the negative effects of a passionate relationship. The line "Born of contact with this world" suggests that human existence is inherently linked to suffering and change, while the phrase "Transformed by passion, changes what I once knew into the enemy" points to the destructive power of strong emotions like love and lust.
As the song progresses, Prema describes how the relationship has shattered her sense of self and left her feeling out of control. "My mind runs wild" implies that she is struggling to maintain her mental stability, while "Unsatisfied by this transformation, no longer know my true position" suggests that she feels lost and alienated from her former identity. The line "Steals my purity and my sanity" is particularly poignant, as it underscores the idea that passionate love can have a corrupting influence that can seep into all aspects of one's life.
In contrast to the negative tone of the verses, the chorus briefly introduces a more positive message. The word "Caitanya" refers to a philosophical concept in Hinduism and Buddhism that translates roughly as "consciousness" or "enlightenment". By invoking this term, Prema suggests that there is a possibility for growth and spiritual transcendence even in the midst of pain and confusion. Yet, the final word of the chorus - "Lust" - brings us back to the central theme of the song: that intense emotions can be both transformative and destructive.
