More new wavey, but also more industrial with those mechanized drums and dark synth tones. Madonna sounds more excited as well....the album version by comparison seems to lack balls.

@getnervousedy agreed, this version has a "dirty" punk feel to it, Mark Kamins turned it into a discoish tune. 30 years later this version song still sounds fresh, the album version sounds a bit dated now

The remix of Everybody on You Can Dance seems to take this version as inspiration. The Mark Kamins version just took too much of the edge off.

.. this IS the Mark Kamins version. He and pro musician's polished it from the absolute original that Steven Bray and Madonna made, per Variety article where Seymour Stein says this.

Anybody know if the version that Steven Bray and Madonna made at first is anywhere online?

Then what's the version on the original 12" single, and later on the album, came from? From the liner notes of Pre-Madonna, Steve Bray said this is part of the four song demo that got Madonna her record deal.

@PungiFungi yes, it's a mystery if there's an earlier version of Everybody than this. I mean obviously there were early takes, but an earlier version? The next iteration after this went to album. Steven Bray doesn't respond on Twitter so guess we will never know

Its more 80s electronic synth newwave kinda sound she gad with this version n hard to imagine that this was the demo befire the original release album versi9n from a year later in 1982 cause the now whwt we know the final released 1982 versionnsounds more of a throwback to a more 1970s Disco funk type feel to it with the instruments n drum beat they used...n 9n here the demo is very much more 1980s sounding than the final 1982 version

The album version is more polished but this demo is more interesting. The final version sounds dated, even in context of the whole album. Like a left over track from the 70’s. Not as sharp and fashionable as the rest of the album.

This sounds like a bad version of music played in discos in like 1981.
I was 13 and liked punk my friend liked disco, so we took turns, going to the bars and clubs that played the different styles of music.
Madonna dressed like everyone else on LI and in NYC.
My friend and I changed how we dressed when she got famous to not be like her. Most of her fans were annoying. Except the gays downtown. They were great.
