Girl
Presets (The) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tonight the
Tonight the hills are watching her as she runs towards the sea
Yeah, she runs so she'll be free
And of all the friends and enemies she's made along the way
They are nowhere in her thoughts as she dives beneath the waves

And he's the one that you've seen sometimes on TV
And his shirt is on the ground while he's tackled by police
And the parcel that he throws across the bridge into the creek
It'll flow towards the sea, it will meet with her tomorrow

No place, sometime
We'll clear our eyes
And when, you're down
I'll come around

And all, the places that she's been along the way
Flames are licking at their walls, night glows with their remains
And from far away the animals come gather round to see
But she knows not how they feel and she knows not what it means

When she was young we'd ask her what she'd like to be
And she'd close her eyes and dream
Now we're nowhere in her thoughts as she dives beneath the waves

A place, I've found
Could be, all ours

I've seen, where you
Would rather be

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Girl And The Sea" by The Presets captures the emotional and physical journey of a young woman who is seeking freedom, diving beneath the waves of the sea. The hills are personified, as they watch her, implying that they too are aware of her quest for freedom. The singer is determined to break free from the constraints of her life, leaving behind friends and enemies alike, consumed by her focus on reaching the sea. The sea represents a place of escape, an alternate reality where she can be free from the worries and constraints of her life.

The second verse of the song introduces a male character who has been tackled by the police, and is throwing a parcel over a bridge into the creek. Although the lyrics are slightly disjointed, it is clear that this character's parcel will reach the sea, where it will meet the singer. The chorus of "Girl And The Sea" reminds us that the singer is working towards her own freedom, and although her loved ones cannot imagine where she may be and what she is doing, she is following her own path.

The last verse of the song brings us full circle to the beginning, where the singer dreamt of becoming someone else. Now she's found a place where she can be herself, and it is a place where she and the person speaking in the lyrics can be together, a space that is for them alone.

When I watch this I think the mermaids pregnant, so wolf let her go.

Incase he ate her and the babies

the wolf also let her go because he knew if she tried to be a wolf like him she would die and the babies perhaps

But by letting her go they had a chance.

And no chance the wolf would hurt them himself or other wolves worse than him

Compared to a wolf

The mermaid is free

The next unwritten love song song is where now she is drowning and

There's larger enemies than a wolf

Surrounding the mermaid and her family

And hes got stronger and her weakerr from raising his young

They need him to come back and show his teeth.
Protect their offspring.

And she sings a siren song

And he hears it.

And theres another album that could be written where theres a truce

So they can simply fight a bigger enemy than just one wolf to protect their
Babies.

Sunshine

Returns

Protects them.

For anyone who doesn't know this music video is a homage to the 1979 Russian animated film "Tale of Tales". It is widely considered the greatest animated film of all time. Was super excited to see the presets use this film as their inspiration.
