Worms
Presets (The) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The worms crawl in and the worms crawl out
The ones that crawl in are lean and thin
The ones that crawl out are fat and stout
Your eyes fall in and your teeth fall out
Your brains come tumbling down your snout

Be merry my friends
Be merry

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Worms" by The Presets have a dark, almost macabre tone that stands in contrast to its upbeat electronic rhythm. The first verse talks about how worms crawl in and out of one's body after death or decay, and how they change in shape and size depending on their consumption. The following lines, "Your eyes fall in and your teeth fall out / Your brains come tumbling down your snout" adds to the imagery of the body's disintegration. It's a grim reminder of our own mortality, and the inevitability of death.

However, the last two lines of the song say "Be merry my friends, Be merry." This possibly implies that despite the disturbing imagery of the earlier lines, we must embrace and enjoy life while we can, for we all are going to face the same end.
