In 2001, Preston School of Industry released All This Sounds Gas, which was recorded mainly in Stockton, California. The album is said to be comprised of the songs that were rejected by Pavement on their final album, Terror Twilight. The band released its second album, Monsoon, in 2004, with studio contributions from members of The Minus 5 and Wilco.
Preston School of Industry went inactive after their September 2004 Australian tour, though Kannberg revealed in late 2006 he had been slowly working on a record: "Don't know when it's going to be released. Just taking my time, nothing special. I've got the songs, I just haven't figured out how I want to do it yet. This winter, I'll probably get it done."

The sky was gray where the bird and hay
Were splattered with moss and broken cross
That littered the road with snow in May
Well, there must be some kind of misunderstanding
This must be some kind of misunderstanding here
Lime is growing all in haste
But clouds are approaching a little too fast
For crying out loud man get your trailer
I'm waiting for the monsoons
Yeah, I'm waiting
Waiting, for the monsoons
We're all waiting, it's the monsoons
We're all waiting for the monsoons
For the monsoons, monsoons
The lyrics to Preston School of Industry's song Get Your Crayons Out! paint a vivid picture of a journey through unfamiliar territory. The opening verse describes a long drive through seven states, with a gray sky above and an array of curious sights on the roadside - from birds and hay to broken crosses and snow in May. The lyrics hint at a sense of confusion and disorientation, with the singer suggesting that there must be "some kind of misunderstanding" at play.
The second verse adds to this sense of unease, with images of raincoats and lime trees somehow out of place in the surroundings. The impending arrival of a storm adds to the sense of urgency, with the singer urging someone to "get your trailer" - perhaps a reference to a makeshift shelter. Finally, the chorus brings a sense of hope and anticipation, with the singer expressing a desire for the arrival of the monsoon rains, and the repetition of the phrase "we're all waiting" hinting at a shared sense of anticipation amongst the group.
Overall, the lyrics to Get Your Crayons Out! suggest a journey through unfamiliar territory that is marked by confusion, unease and a sense of anticipation. The precise meaning of the song is left open to interpretation, but the vivid descriptions and unique imagery make for a compelling listening experience.
