Pretty Things Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As silver tears they weave and lace,
Sad patterns upon her face,
She waits for you.
So low below a laser sun,

Through velvet fields she runs,
Reaching for you.
And so you bleed now,
Your hand holds the knife

That is tearing your life apart.
Why don't you leave now,
The city's too heavy
And your dreams they melt in the sun.

On mellow blue, birds curve and glide.
Through shadows of grief she slides,
She waits for you.
There on a hill before the dawn,

In silence a promise torn,
She turns from you.
And so you bleed now ...
As silver tears, they weave and lace,

She waits for you.
So low below a laser sun,
Reaching for you.
On mellow blue birds curve and glide.

She waits for you.

There on a hill before the dawn,
She turns from you...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pretty Things’ “Grass” delve into themes of sadness, regret, and unrequited love. In the first stanza, the woman in question is waiting for the person she loves, and the tears on her face suggest that she has been waiting for a while, and perhaps feels overlooked and forgotten. The second stanza hints at the person’s struggles - they are bleeding and feel weighed down by the city and their unfulfilled dreams. The third stanza is heart-wrenching, as it shows the woman turning away from the person she has been waiting for, and the final stanza repeats and reinforces the idea that she is still waiting and hoping for her love to return.

These guys are grossly underrated. I love how their lyrics pay particular attention to the sounds of words. It reminds me of peter sinfield’s work with king crimson. They’re so smooth, settled, and psychedelic, but they’re also brutal, painfully honest, and incredibly sad.

Very underrated, I think they were/are more appreciated by musicians than by general audience.

One of my all-time favorite songs.

Absolutely beautiful I’ve been discovering so many beautiful bands and music lately. I’m in a transitioning stage in my life

A transcendent psych song. A lot of luckier bands will be remembered forever for material that couldn't hold a candle to this forgotten gem. What a shame.

Such an underrated song and band

1987..... I saved every week ,while summer working , for vinyl records from my local Comet records. I used to order these albums I knew nothing g about but liked the covers. This album was in my hands one day and after some consideration I put it down. 30 odd years later I started listening to it. Wow.

Esta canción me remonta a un sueño donde tenía que escoger entre la persona que amaba y una copia de ella, donde ambas eran la misma persona. Que rola tan chingona.
