I Put A Spell On You
Price Alan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I put a spell on you because you're mine
You better stop the things that you do
I ain't lyin', no, I ain't lyin'
I just can't stand it babe
The way you're always runnin' 'round
I just can't stand it, the way you always put me down
I put a spell on you because you're mine
I put a spell on you because you're mine
You better stop the things that you do
I ain't lyin', no, I ain't lyin'
I just can't stand it babe
The way you're always runnin' 'round
I just can't stand it, the way you always put me down
I put a spell on you because you're mine

I put a spell on you. I put a spell on you
I put a spell on you. I put a spell on you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "I Put A Spell On You" by Price Alan are about the singer's intense feelings of possessiveness towards the person they are addressing. The lines "I put a spell on you because you're mine" and "the way you're always running 'round" convey a sense of jealousy and a desire to control the person's behavior. The singer is unhappy with the way the person is treating them and wants to make them change their ways through the use of a spell.

The repetition of the phrase "I put a spell on you" throughout the song emphasizes the singer's determination to make the other person do what they want. The line "you better stop the things that you do" is a warning that the singer will not tolerate the person's behavior any longer. The chorus of the song, with its repeated refrains and eerie melody, creates a hypnotic, almost mystical effect that enhances the feeling of otherworldly power the singer is trying to convey.

Overall, "I Put A Spell On You" is a song about passion, obsession, and the lengths people will go to in order to exert control over those they love. The use of magic as a metaphor for this desire for control adds a sense of mystery and danger to the song, making it a haunting and memorable classic.

So hauntingly beautiful. A jazzed up rock version that will be immortalized greatly over time.

chills on my spine...A masterpiece

@zezt

This is a brilliant version, and the organ solo is really amazing!

@doubleotwentyone

Just about the best solo thing Alan Price ever did. Great keys on this, an art he seemed to lose as his solo career progressed. Love this version.

@davidrmoran

interesting you put it this way; can you give any specifics? Not disagreeing. I did a long interview with him in the early 1970s and already he seemed to be fading a little bit; he did the first House of the Rising Sun work before leaving the Animals, copied immediately verbatim by Rowberry; think I have that right, should doublecheck

doubleotwentyone.
Best version.
AHHH Memories ... Memories

@Maxim89Il

I think the best thing Alan Price did was the album Between Today and Yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I like his coverts, but I find his solo work brilliant.

@ShoshannaBerryPorter

Such an amazing interpretation of a Screamin' Jay Hawkins Classic. Definitely one of the most impressive covers.

Wow, first time hearing this version and it’s incredible! I wonder if Eric Burdon recorded this, I could also totally see him owning it.

@MrChristian

Yes he did and Alan Price’s version is better https://youtu.be/kBUICBz2-L4
