In the wake of this set-back, McMahon went on a years-long hiatus from music. Prick reemerged in 2002 with The Wreckard, independently released by McMahon over the Internet, and featuring many songs once slated for the second, canceled Nothing Records album.
Riverhead
Prick Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Like an actress on the screen.
Caught in certain kinds of things
Make your personality scream.
Tied to lies and alibis,
She bends to pick up the words.
I'm a little tired of the up and down
Of the common race,
Hollow is the crowd tonight,
Feathered and unreal.
Followers of sheep in flight
Or fancies in the field.
Suckers they have always been,
Suckers they remain.
Time is flowing red.
What's it like?
Riverhead.
But you never know,
Is she high or low?
You gotta be brave tonight.
Panic in her mind again,
She can't deal the real.
Teacher smacks the good book
Unto her head, says God is fear.
What's it like?
Accidents won't happen
If you never leave your home.
Keep that soul like a thoroughbred,
The first one will let it roam.
Your mind will snap, it can't be held back.
Imagination's a mother.
Time is flowing red.
What's it like?
Riverhead.
The lyrics to Prick's song "Riverhead" depict a sense of panic and confusion, particularly in the mind of a woman who is feeling pressured by society's expectations. The first verse describes her feeling like an actress on the screen, being caught in certain things that make her personality scream. She is tied to lies and alibis, and although she attempts to pick up the words, she is "a little tired of the up and down of the common race." The singer then poses the question of what would happen if they were to pray together tonight.
The second verse expands on the theme of conformity and the pressure to follow the crowd. The crowd is described as hollow, feathered, and unreal, and they are either followers of sheep in flight or fancies in the field. The singer criticizes them for always being suckers, and says they remain as such. The chorus then repeats, with the line "time is flowing red, what's it like, riverhead" seemingly referring to the passage of time as something that is both beautiful and dangerous.
The third verse returns to the woman's perspective, with the panic in her mind resurfacing. She can't deal with reality, indicated by the teacher hitting her with a good book and telling her that God is fear. The chorus repeats once more, with the final lines urging to be brave despite the situation.
Overall, the song seems to be about the pressure to conform and the fear of standing out, as well as the constant anxiety that plagues so many individuals. The repeated question of "what's it like, riverhead" could be seen as both a comment on the beauty of life and the danger that comes with it.

Towards the end of the song you can definitely hear a strong Reznor influence.
Rather Have the Story - The RHS podcast
Just the opposite. Reznor took this ending for the Bowie remix of "I'm afraid of Americans". They have a long history, back to when Trent started in Kevin's band.
