1) Priestess is a Canadian rock band formed, in Montreal,Quebec in 2003 by Mikey Heppner (vocals/guitar), Mike Dyball (bass), Vince Nudo (vocals/drums), and Dan Watchorn (vocals/guitar).
Mike Heppner was playing with The Dropouts at the time when three of its members headed to New York to form The Stills. Left on his own, Heppner formed a new band: Priestess. In 2005, the band released their debut album, Hello Master. The release was issued via Indica in Canada and on Ace Fu in the U.S. A major-label recording contract with RCA followed in January 2006.
North American tour dates opening for Dinosaur Jr. followed that spring. Priestess toured with The Sword, Early Man, Diamond Nights, Black Label Society, Black Stone Cherry, Converge, Mastodon and thrash metal pioneers Megadeth as a part of their "Tour Of Duty" tour in June of 2007.

A daughter of Russian Immigrants, Sasha Nadein began writing under alias "Priestess" in 2018, inspired heavily by the aesthetics and sounds of 2014 Tumblr. With lyrics that reflect what it's like being a young adult in the 21st Century. Priestess aims to being sonic nostalgia to generation z in a time where things often feel uncertain.

Ears are all around
If we hide each other
No one will be found
I can hear them talking
Lie against the ground
It's almost over
Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise
Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise
High up in the tower
Chained and bolted down
Looking through the window
Her eyes are on me now
I can't escape it
I can't make a sound
Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise
Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise
Fly the vulture hunter
Scourge upon the town
On wings of thunder
Bolting through the clouds
Be drawn together
Lightning strikes the ground
Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise
Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise
Morning
Waiting for the sun to rise
Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise
The lyrics in Priestess's song "The Firebird" reveal a sense of urgency and danger. The first stanza suggests the importance of staying quiet to avoid detection, implying a fear of being caught or watched. The individual's survival depends on protecting and helping each other. In the second stanza, the individual is imprisoned and unable to move or make a sound. The lyrics paint a bleak picture of helplessness and desperation. However, waiting for morning and awaiting the sunrise anticipates a glimmer of hope, and perhaps an opportunity for escape.

A shame these guys are on hiatus. Their brand of rock is a little bit old school, but with kind of an original twist. Rock music is in sad shape these days and needs more bands like this: something that takes what's made metal great but isn't afraid to do its own thing. I believe RCA had a dispute over this album, and that it wasn't "marketable" enough. Well, that's the thing about true rock and metal. They don't worry about what'll be popular and marketable. They worry about doing what they want and say eff off to anyone who doesn't. Without that sort of attitude you stop being metal and start being Maroon 5.

From a old rockers view we need more of this. My go-to bands are shopping Rodeo Drive instead of knocking it out of the park like this! Still listening in 2021

I saw these guys play live before I had ever heard their music. After the first few songs... I was blown the fuck away! Been listening ever since. Wish they had made at least one more album. Deep down (though I highly doubt it), I'm hoping they'd go on tour once more!
